Licensed building practitioners and Master Builders, Drum Construction was established in Queenstown in 2019 by owner and director Michael Drum, who has more than 20 years’ building experience both here and overseas. “I finished my building apprenticeship in Dunedin, then went to London for several years working on high-end residential over there, then returned to Auckland and then to Queenstown where I’ve built several architectural homes at Jacks Point before settling with the family in Dunedin,” says Michael. “We’re passionate about building beautiful homes and making the process enjoyable for our clients.” In recent times, Drum Construction has delivered a variety of standout developments for TGC Homes, including high-end Cannington Road townhouses in Māori Hill. “This is three high-end million-dollar townhouse units, three bedrooms – two downstairs, one up, completed in late 2024,” says Michael. Other TGC developments, Drum Construction has been involved with includes The Links on Dundonald Street in Tainui, which is 18 townhouses both three and two bedrooms in the seaside suburb “Also, townhouses at Napier Street and a current luxury build at Lynn Street.” Michael is supported by a skilled leadership team, experienced specialists in their respective fields, including renovation and remedial building specialist Jason Gable, who brings 30 years’ experience in transforming existing spaces. Andrew Wilson, a senior builder with decades in the trade, works closely with Jason and the team, which includes Jack Perkins, the company’s new build & multi-unit development project manager with more than 10 years’ experience in high-end large-scale developments. Then there is Carl Dinnissen, Drum Construction’s bespoke build specialist and Health & Safety manager, who brings decades of high-end build experience around Queenstown-Lakes district. “I’ve surrounded myself with people who are better than me in their specialties,” Michael says. “That’s how we deliver the best for our clients.” One of Drum Construction’s strengths lies in its ability to work closely with architects, engineers and clients, from the earliest stages, to value engineer projects with the aim of maximising results within budget. A current example of this is a new architectural build the company is undertaking in collaboration with Spargo Architectural Design. “It’s been a year in the making, with a lot of value engineering to maximise the client’s spend. We’re proud of what we’ve achieved in the design and budgeting process, particularly given the poor ground conditions,” says Michael. “The final design makes the most of both the sun and the incredible views, and we have just started on the fence on-site.” Michael places importance on building a positive workplace culture across the company. “A core value for us is creating a workplace where people want to turn up and enjoy their day.
