The family has completed the first of three Redpath wintering sheds, housing 400 cows, with two further sheds of 500 cows each planned, one of which is currently under construction. “To be able to reinvest in terms of the sheds from the payout, without having to borrow additional money, is a real advantage at the moment,” says Brad. “The shed we’ve completed has been an absolute godsend and has opened our eyes as to how useful they are during winter but also on the shoulders of the season to reduce pasture damage, increase cow condition, and as a calving barn.” The move to expand the family business comes alongside significant personal milestones for Brad and Laura, who have moved house, welcomed a newborn baby, and purchased a new dairy farm - all within the past three months. Brad says the McKenzies see significant opportunities for the new farm. “The farm is doing great production at the moment and we believe we can achieve the same if not more by implementing our principles and cultures.”
