Craig milks 630 cows through a 54-bail rotary and has been using the Clean Green E luent Company system for around 10 years. “Before we had a travelling irrigator and wanted a new low application rate system that was easier to use,” he says. “We now have a pod system running on a timer. It only applies e luent for 15 minutes an hour when there is product there. It’s a low-rate application, and we have di erent sections of the pods so it applies in a di erent place each time. They are all programmed to go separately, one after the other around the pasture. We shift the pods over four paddocks, from one paddock to the next every 20 days. We can adjust the time if we need to, but they don’t do a full run right around in a day. We only put on around 0.5mm per application.” Craig highlights the clear bene its for farm productivity. “We’ve seen improvements in the nutrients; we don’t need to put fertiliser on those paddocks as they maintain good nutrient levels. We grow more grass on them and harvest more baleage with the surplus. We can get up to 50 bales o the paddocks, so we are now growing an extra tonne of grass each year.” The ease of the system has also been a real plus. “It’s de initely simpler for sta to use, easier than a traditional system to manage, and we have peace of mind it will do its thing as it should. It’s peace of mind for compliance with no danger of over-application.” The system is integrated with the farm’s yard wash, recirculating water for cleaning the cow yard. “The solids left are full of nutrients too, so we get quite a bene it out of applying them to the paddock at the right times of the year as well. Nothing is wasted.” The Clean Green E luent System represents a signi icant advancement in dairy e luent management, featuring a patented concrete-lined weeping wall that removes 35% more solids and nutrients than any other tested system. It is over 1,000 times cleaner than a conventional solids press. Its core innovation lies in separating liquids from solids through parallel timber weeping walls, capturing the bulk of NPK nutrients in organic humus while allowing controlled application of liquid e luent at rates as low as 0.25mm per 24 hours. The system also achieves substantial water savings with farms typically using 50 70 litres per cow per day for shed and yard washing, while Clean Green E luent Company systems operate on just 15 20 litres per cow per day. The automated nature of the system eliminates daily stress and operational complexity, making monitoring straightforward. Two tanks with loats indicate levels, with one tank always empty and the other full, ensuring e iciency and reliability. Craig says the technology has been a game-changer. “It’s easier to manage, saves water, grows more grass, and gives us complete con idence in compliance. After 10 years, we’re still seeing the bene its every season.” Managing effluent made easy Craig Williams Weeping wall, Distribution system and e luent storage facility.
