Any water treatment system should begin with a full chemical and mineral analysis. Once you know exactly what you are dealing with, you can recommend the right system to solve the problem.” The company recently applied this approach to a former dairy farm that is now used as a run-off block. The property had been experiencing persistent water issues caused by high levels of iron, which had left heavy orange staining across troughs, fittings and farm infrastructure. The farm had previously installed an aeration and sand gravity system, which Dan says is older technology, but it simply wasn’t solving the issue. After testing the water supply and confirming the mineral composition, ADW recommended installing a Davey Kinetico water softening system capable of treating up to 100,000 litres of water per day. “We use the Davey Kinetico system because it is hydraulic and doesn’t require electricity to operate,” explains Dan. “It uses a twin tank design, meaning there is always treated water available while the other tank regenerates. Importantly, it uses clean water during its self-cleaning cycle so it offers several advantages for farm environments.” Following installation he says the improvement was immediate. Stock hydration issues previously experienced on the property were resolved and the animals are now drinking normally. A similar situation recently occurred on a working dairy farm where manganese contamination in the water supply had been creating persistent staining and blocking household tapware. “Before the system was installed the manganese would build up in the dairy shed requiring regular caustic cleaning,” says Dan. Using the same Kinetico technology, scaled to suit the farm’s water demand, ADW was able to eliminate the problem. “The houses no longer need to clean their tap filters all the time, the water tastes better and in the shed there’s no longer the need for weekly caustic Absolute Diary & Water new premises at 7 Gateway West. cleaning,” he says. Founded in January 2024, Absolute Dairy & Water was established after its shareholders identified a gap in the industry for specialist expertise in dairy farm milking equipment, water systems, effluent systems and pool and spa. The company’s five shareholders bring decades of combined experience. Dan himself combines 10 years working as a dairy engineer with more than 25 years specialising in water treatment and pumping systems. The team also includes experienced installer Aidan Wright and long-time dairy industry figure Rick Finucane. ADW provides installation and servicing of dairy sheds, pumps, filtration systems and effluent systems as well as pool and spa equipment and chemicals. The company is members of the NZMPTA and holds Blue Tick accreditation for water meter verifications. “Our aim is always to provide practical, reliable solutions that actually work for each customer,” says Dan. “Every property is different and the key is understanding a problem before deciding how to fix it.” He adds that working closely with trusted suppliers, including Davey, Dairymaster, Smart Water and Paramount Pools, helps ensure the company can deliver the right solution for each situation.
