From those humble beginnings, the company has grown into a multidisciplinary team of approximately 30 people, located at two fully independent centres in Winton and Gore. Pete Hays, company General Manager says having the two centres, with Gore, the more recently established, positions the skilled teams well and provides access for customers across a wide southland geography. “Gore has been in business seven years now and both centres are fully equipped. We have dedicated teams in each centre but at times, when needed, people will move across. It means we’re in a great position to give our customers excellent responsive capability when emergencies happen,” Pete explains. Pete says key to DairyTech’s success and reputation has been its very down-to-earth approach and as a locally owned business, deep connections with its community. He’s keen to point out that DairyTech South handles much more than repairs and maintenance. Designing and building new milking systems and delivering complete dairy-shed projects, major upgrades and installation of automation are seamlessly woven into the service offering. “Our team features dairy specialists across electrical, plumbing, engineering and technical services, meaning there is very little we can’t install, improve or repair. We also provide milking-machine and backflow testing performed by qualified technicians. Everything we do is backed by comprehensive servicing and 24/7 breakdown support.” Pete says one of DairyTech South’s greatest strengths is its people, who combine extensive dairy-industry knowledge with practical problemsolving ability. The team is highly skilled but remains approachable and down to earth, taking genuine pride in finding the right solution for each customer. “We can easily coordinate different trades through one local business and bring a wealth of experience across many makes and models of dairy equipment. We’re also very efficient when called upon to complete upgrades between milkings and each one of us cares about the quality of every project, no matter how large or small. There’s something very special about the inter-generational sharing of knowledge that happens here.” Pete says key to DairyTech’s success and reputation has been its very down-to-earth approach. The business carries a wide range of quality milking equipment, with MilkTech and Read Industrial among its core brands. MilkTech is an innovative and growing New Zealand company, while Read brings more than 100 years of New Zealand experience and a reputation for robust, dependable equipment. “We’re picky about the brands we carry and we’ve chosen these two for good reasons. MilkTech is an innovative, growing New Zealand company that listens to farmers and develops practical, fit-for-purpose technology, while Read Industrial brings more than 100 years of experience and a long-standing reputation within New Zealand’s dairy industry.” DairyTech South also offers innovative New Zealand technology from Bovonic, with its mastitisdetection system, alongside NutriDose’s reliable mineral-dosing solutions. With a sensible and pragmatic approach to every project at hand, Pete says the team are well-equipped to deliver just what a job or project requires. “We understand that when a breakdown happens on a dairy farm, we need to find a solution quickly. Our farmer clients know that should something happen, we’ll be there to correct the problem as fast as possible. It’s a standard we place on ourselves and live by.” Looking after local farmers is at the heart of DairyTech South. Pete says the message is simple: “We keep the milk flowing. We design, build, maintain and modernise dairy systems, backed by reliable service and support that Southland farmers can count on.”
