Owned and operated by Rosalie and Richard Kalin, the Omata-based company has weathered fluctuations in the wider building sector, staying consistent through a mix of contracted work, private builds, and referrals that reflect its local reputation. “After Covid we were incredibly busy, then things slowed down in 2024,” Rosalie says. “Last year we started to pick up again, which has really followed what is happening with lending, the housing market, and confidence in the economy.” A key factor in the company’s consistency has been its ongoing relationships with GJ Gardner Homes, who provide reliable work while also allowing the team to tackle more complex builds, such as a bespoke three- storey waterfront home and the recently featured showhome in Brooklands. Another key factor is Kalindale’s commitment to local employment and career development. The company places a strong emphasis on developing local talent, often bringing apprentices straight from school through to qualification. The team is supported by regular contractors, with the capacity to scale from five through to 10 people on-site as demand dictates. Kalindale Builders is responding to changes in the property market, including increased housing intensification. The team has delivered duplexes and apartment developments, including a recent four-unit build in Westown. “We are seeing more people replace single homes with multiple dwellings to maximise return,” Rosalie says. “That type of work is definitely becoming more common.” Kalindale Builders employs four full-time builders and an apprentice nearing qualification, supported by regular contractors. Richard remains hands-on on-site each day, while Rosalie manages operations and administration, including client relationships, quoting, contracts, and maintaining strong relationships with the broader Taranaki community. “That balance works really well.
