Mico are proud to support Laser across the Hawke’s Bay region Laser Plumbing and Electrical Napier has built a reputation in Hawke’s Bay as a tightly integrated, multi-disciplinary trade business – one that combines experience, innovation and a strong commitment to people. The company, formally established as a combined plumbing and electrical operation in 2021, is part of the wider Laser Group network. Its foundations, however, stretch back further: Director Paul Manaena joined the Laser family in 2000, establishing Laser Electrical Hawke’s Bay and helping shape the brand in New Zealand from its early days. The business evolved over time, becoming Laser Electrical Napier in 2010, before a pivotal move in 2017, when Paul purchased Laser Plumbing Napier from Murray Rigby, bringing the two trades under one roof. In 2021, Geoff and Brenda Roberts joined the family alongside Paul and wife Martha, further strengthening the leadership team. Today, the business employs 25 staff, plus subcontractors. Geoff leads the plumbing team, while Paul oversees the electrical division, ensuring strong capability across both disciplines. For Brenda, the dual-trade model is a strength. “Having both a plumbing and electrical arm to the business means the whole business can work more efficiently,” she says. With a single administration team coordinating both services, customers benefit from synchronised scheduling – removing the need to manage multiple contractors. Laser offers a comprehensive range of plumbing and electrical services. Its plumbing division covers everything from residential maintenance to new builds, as well as commercial and industrial, supported by highly qualified professionals known for reliability and quality workmanship. Gas-fitting services include installation of appliances, such as heaters, fireplaces, hobs and continuous hot water systems. On the electrical side, the team delivers residential and commercial services including new builds and maintenance, alterations, central heating, heat pumps, solar installations and 24/7 emergency callouts. Drainage services round out the offering, from design and installation for new homes to maintenance, inspections and repairs using advanced camera and hydroblasting technology. Laser Plumbing and Electrical Napier has a strong focus on training and workforce development. Through the Earn+Learn programme, apprentices are supported from entry through to qualification, combining paid work with structured learning. The company has used the programme for several years, and currently supports several apprentices across both trades, including a fourth-year female plumbing apprentice. Geoff and Paul, described as “old school” tradies, are passionate about preparing the next generation of plumbing and electrical tradespeople for success. They ensure the right balance of qualified staff is always on worksites, to properly mentor apprentices and ensure quality outcomes. Beyond technical delivery, Laser Plumbing and Electrical Napier is driven by a broader purpose. Its vision is to “to grow our people and our business in a way that helps our families, communities, customers and each other”. That ethos is reflected in projects such as the Waingākau Housing Development in Flaxmere, which focuses on creating affordable, high-quality homes and supporting pathways into homeownership for inter- generational whānau Māori – a project that Laser has been part of for six years.
