| 123 Eric Bosch Building BUILDING T T Virginia Wright When Eric Bosch spent six months overseas one of the jobs he did while he was travelling was building. He enjoyed it so much that on his return to the Wairarapa in 2005 he began a building apprenticeship. 20 years on Eric still loves building having established his own Wairarapa based company, Eric Bosch Building Ltd. in 2018 after a few years working as a sole trader. The size of Eric’s team has gone up and down over the years depending on the state of the economy and the amount of work he has on, but one thing that never changes is the quality of their craftsmanship as they approach every project determined to exceed client’s expectations: renovations and extensions, new builds, shed building, maintenance, re-roofing and repairs, decks and fences; whatever the project Eric and his team do it to his usual high standard, ensuring his client’s satisfaction as well as his own. “I love it when clients or potential clients have an idea of what they want and they ask me if we can build it and I say ‘yes we can build anything. We just need to see what you want to do and what your budget’s like and go from there.’ I aim to create the things they’re envisioning or dreaming about while doing a top-quality job,” he says. While clients sometimes already have plans they often come to him with an idea of what they want and the process starts from there. Whether it’s a renovation or a new build the first thing Eric takes time to establish is what their longer-term plans are. “Is this for a quick flick or is it something they’re envisioning living in for a long time and are putting their hard-earned savings into.” An extensive renovation Eric Bosch Building did recently was definitely the latter as they transformed an original 1960’s weatherboard, drafty, three-bedroom farmhouse into a comfortable, modern home with plenty of room for the clients and their four children. Three bedrooms became four with the master gaining an ensuite and a walk-in wardrobe. An un-used front entry became an office for the client to use when she was working from home; the kitchen was extended into the former laundry and knocking down a wall turned it into an open plan space extending into the dining room. The old kitchen joinery was replaced with new while the original rimu floors in both kitchen and dining room were kept, although sanded and varnished afresh, carrying some of the kitchen’s essential character through into the newly renovated space. Replacing all the windows and doors with modern, double-glazed aluminium joinery, and putting insulation throughout where in much of the house there had been none, means it’s now a warm, easily heated home.
