Now, under new ownership, Accord Plastics 2025 is entering a new chapter with a transformed factory, improved manufacturing processes and a renewed focus on growing its customer base. Cathy Cameron and Mike Aucott took ownership of the business a year ago after Mike had previously worked there. The business is now experiencing growth of around 35 to 45 per cent. “It has been about bringing a fresh breath of life to the business and making sure we can provide reliability and consistency for our customers,ˮ says Mike. Securing a reliable supply of raw materials has been an important part of the transformation, providing greater security for both the business and its customers. Cathy and Mike are planning further investment in machinery and plant as they continue to grow the operation. Accord Plastics 2025 manufactures a wide range of polyethylene products including plastic bags, carton and box liners, pallet covers, garment bags, continuous film, plastic sheeting, tubing and custom-made products. It also manufactures specialist bags for the asbestos industry. The business supplies customers across industries including food, horticulture, distribution, manufacturing, textiles, seafood, meat and retail. The couple say for businesses, buying from a local manufacturer can mean shorter lead times, greater flexibility and the ability to communicate directly with the people producing the order. “Because we are the owners and weʼre local, we can be flexible and work to tight timeframes and get the products to our customer when they need them,ˮ explains Cathy. That flexibility is particularly valuable for smaller businesses, which may not require the large production runs offered by overseas suppliers or bigger manufacturers. Accord Plastics 2025 can accommodate both regular orders and one-off requirements, and also create products to specific dimensions and specifications. The business is also putting sustainability and community support at the heart of its next phase. All of its manufacturing plastic waste is collected for recycling and it also accepts suitable local plastic waste for recycling. By manufacturing locally it can also take advantage of New Zealandʼs low-carbon electricity supply and reduce the additional international freight associated with importing finished plastic products from overseas. For Accord Plastics 2025 being a local business also means supporting the communities around it and it is proud to support a number of organisations including Wellington Free Ambulance, the Special Childrenʼs Christmas Party and the Wairarapa Cancer Society. “We are proud to be manufacturing here in the Wairarapa and supporting other New Zealand businesses,ˮ says Cathy. “As Accord Plastics 2025 continues to invest, grow and build relationships with customers we are proving that being small and local can be a significant advantage.ˮ 152 Lincoln Road, Masterton 5810
