Born and raised on a sheep and beef farm in the Makino Valley, Thomas spent seven years building in rural areas before returning to the family farm for a decade. A change was prompted after he and his wife Andrea welcomed their second child. “I came up with an idea and went for it,” he says. The idea was simple enough, but it required specialist equipment. Septic tank cleaning, drain unblocking, dairy shed work, and council jobs all depend on having the right machinery, and Thomas quickly found there was plenty of demand. The business initially ran with one truck and Thomas doing all the work himself, from septic tanks to blocked cowshed drains. As the workload grew, he brought an employee into the business about 12 months ago. Septicworks has now expanded its leet to two vacuum trucks, a drain cleaning unit, and underground inspection gear. The latest addition to the leet is a 10,000 litre unit that has expanded its capability beyond septic tanks. Its large capacity, powerful pump, and specialist air injection nozzles allow the business to take on sand and sludge removal, sumps, culverts, and deep well cleaning. Septicworks’ relationship with Vepo Plumbing has become an important part of the business. Thomas says the company has supported his ambition to build a service that can respond when customers need it. “Vepo has an excellent team who we can refer our customers to knowing they will have their expectations met when they need it. They are a irst class out it”. Septicworks now provides septic tank cleaning, drain unblocking, high-pressure jetting, pipe and drain inspections, underground service locating, sump, sand trap and culvert cleaning, grease trap cleaning, and portaloo servicing across South Taranaki and wider Taranaki. Thomas says his business has bene ited from strong local support, and he does not take that for granted. His focus is on doing a good job for the people who call, being ready when they need him, and leaving a nice tidy site. Behind the business is Andrea, who manages the bookkeeping and o ice administration while raising the couple’s three young boys. Thomas says having that support at home has been critical to the freedom he has to build the business. “When I get home, there’s a warm dinner, the house is tidy, and the kids are looked after. I couldn’t do what I do without Andrea.” Septicworks now expanded its fleet Septic Tanks | Blocked Drains | Culverts & Novaflo If It Flows, We Know Taranaki family owned and operated, providing a first-class service whenever you need it most.
