Davcon Ltd BUILDING “The types of projects we take on provide our apprentices with plenty of opportunities to hone their building skills, be involved in problem-solving, and get a really good feel for what high quality construction involves.” Last year, a superb home near Te Mata Peak took out the region’s Master Builders House of the Year, along with five prestigious awards. At 686sqm the elegant property, designed by Sumich Chaplin Architects, includes 4 bedrooms and 3 living areas, commanding unsurpassed sweeping views. The infinity pool absolutely wowed Judges. In all, Davcon Construction has accumulated a staggering 23 awards over the years. “What we offer is a solutions-based approach particularly if the project presents with difficulties. If we’re involved from the outset we can input ways to better go about a build. We’re also experts at undertaking research to provide various options for clients to consider. It’s all part of the tools we have in our toolbox.” Davcon has also worked with leading, innovative architects, including DGSE in Napier, Atkinson Harwood Architecture, Tess Fenwick Architects and Andy Coltart, a famous Hawke’s Bay Architect, among others. “We built the Rowan Apartments that Tess designed for Presbyterian Support East Coast, providing purpose-built, accessible high standard living for those with disabilities in Hawke’s Bay. It was a wonderful project, which gained significant community support.” Asked about current projects Jules says work was underway on a new home in a beautiful location at the back of Taradale, along with another wonderful new home in the same suburb, commanding a view over the whole of Napier. “We’ve also got another new home in Havelock North and two renovations, so there’s a good amount to keep the team engaged.” Jules says he has concerns about the overall cost of construction in this country, and how the sector is often affected by overseas factors. “We have to deal with regulatory changes and the fact that every three years there’s a general election, which can influence policy and create a reticence on the part of developers and the like to commit to projects .” • Fibrous Plaster Manufacturer and Installation • Supply, x and stop gib board • Commercial • Domestic • New & Existing • Ceiling & Cornices • Moulds made on request ATLAS FIBROUS PLASTER CO. It’s a great region to work and live in and I’m happy Davcon has created the opportunities for a whole new generation of builder to evolve. That support is something I intend to continue offering.”
