| 99 T T Emma Bailey Bespoke house and land packages A build at 62 Tokotoko Parade. Delivering beautiful bespoke house and land packages in Matamata, the HCB Construction team is passionate about creating homes with a difference in the Waikato. Coming in around $900,000 the company is offering set price house and land packages tailored to the section that stand out and exceed expectations. They are currently building in the popular Maea Fields subdivision in Matamata, HCB Construction Owner operator Hayden Cruickshank said. “At the moment we are building them and selling them. We’ve just completed one and due to start another and have another two more properties in the pipeline.” He aims to keep the custom homes under $900,000. “In this market people want to see the home finished, they don’t want to pay rent while the house is being built and there is more security. Feedback from banks is they would rather lend to a completed property.” His passion is creating individual homes. “We want to create homes that exceed people’s expectations. Every home is different. It’s all designed by an architect and because we have low overheads we can pack a lot more features in.” Hayden meets the architect at the site, and they will design the home to make the most of the land. His wife Brittany, a registered nurse, is also a key part of the design process with an eye for interiors. “That is definitely her strength.” Having a tight knit group of sub-contractors is important too, with the company still doing roof shouts when the home reaches that stage. “I really value our team of sub-contractors, all our subbies know each other and respect each other. Sometimes subbies don’t even cross paths but these guys are a team.” Hayden started building at 21. He came off a dairy farm and had his heart set on farming, but it wasn’t working out with playing rugby. “A guy at my rugby club, Dale Foote, offered me an apprenticeship. I got qualified with him and worked with him for a few years and then went out contracting.” HCB Construction BUILDING He was contract building for a rest home and got busy enough he had to expand. Many of his staff have come through the Matamata College gateway programme or the local rugby club. “We’ve got a great young crew. “I’m an owner operator so I’m on the tools 80 per cent of the time; at the moment there are two staff plus me.” Previously he had up to five guys, but a few have moved onto Australia or the UK. “It’s relatively quiet at the moment so I’ve decided to hold off hiring until we find the right person. “Things slowed down post Covid when interest rates went flying up. We find here in the Waikato interest rates have a direct impact on people’s ability to build or renovate.” “As well as people looking to build or buy their own home to live in, we also have farm- “I’m an owner operator so I’m on the tools 80 per cent of the time.” Proud To Supply Matamata T I M B E R & H A R D W A R E L T D 1 Rewa Street, Matamata (07) 888 8145 office@matamatatimber.co.nz WINDOWS & DOORS Mt Maunganui | 07 575 5074 • Aluminium windows & doors • Replacement joinery • Free quoting service • Metro Series • Architectural Series • Thermal Heart Email: sales@epicwindows.co.nz 45 Newton Street Proud to support HCB Construction ers looking to invest off farm, or subdivide a section off and build.” To see an array of HCB Construction’s impressive builds visit their Website and Facebook page.
