T T Karen Phelps “Dad has built the company to what it is now, and it’s my job to keep the values that have underpinned its success and continue to grow, diversify and modernise the business.” After more than 26 years building a reputation across Whanganui, Manawatū and Taranaki, Fleetline Diggers is entering a new chapter as the second generation takes charge of the family business. Founder, Mark McGinniss, established the company many years ago and grew it into a trusted name in earthmoving, directional drilling and civil earthworks in the region. Over the past year, his son Tarron has stepped into the day-to-day management of the business, taking responsibility for leading its next stage of growth. “Dad has built the company to what it is now, and it’s my job to keep the values that have underpinned its success and continue to grow, diversify and modernise the business,” says Tarron. He says the company’s commitment to personal service, honesty and reliability remains firmly in place. With a small dedicated and talented team, Fleetline Diggers prides itself on working closely together to deliver efficient solutions for residential, rural and commercial customers. Specialising in directional drilling and underground earthworks, the company provides a broad range of services, allowing it to cater to a variety of clients and needs. Services include excavation, civil earthworks, farm work, drainage installation, site preparation, groundworks and concrete driveway construction. Projects completed are also varied, and include subdivision earthworks, in-ground utility installation, commercial site development and practical farm services, such as drainage, irrigation trenching, access tracks, fence line preparation and effluent pond excavation. It is an approved Whanganui District Council contractor for water, stormwater and sewer connections. The company is also well equipped to support residential building projects, preparing house sites, excavating foundations, clearing sections, removing tree stumps and constructing new concrete driveways for homeowners and housing companies. One of the most significant additions in recent years has been hydro excavation. The company invested in a large HydroVac unit that uses high-pressure water to safely loosen soil before vacuuming it away, allowing crews to excavate without damaging underground infrastructure. “It’s a non-destructive way of digging that removes much of the risk around existing services,” says Tarron. “When you’re working in areas with water pipes, power cables or other utilities it gives customers confidence that the job can be completed safely.” The specialised equipment has already been used for a wide variety of projects, including locating underground services for Fulton Hogan and other large companies, digging power pole holes in Whanganui, cleaning swimming pools, clearing stormwater drains and removing trees. Tarron says safety and professionalism remain central to every project. Fleetline Diggers is Site Safe verified, and the team also holds specialist qualifications, including HDPE butt fusion and electrofusion certification for pipe installation, traffic management design and STMS certifications. Tarron says the business will never lose sight of its family values and offers free quotes. “Our aim is to carry on the good working relationships we have built with our customers in Whanganui, Manawatū, and Taranaki and continue delivering a great service and modernise and carry on the family business.”
