That relationship culminated in the jewel to CAPE’s crown – 131 Queen Street.” This award-winning project has transformed a century-old building. CAPE delivered a comprehensive structural and seismic enhancement of the 10-storey building (including its basement), as well as building and outfitting upscale bathrooms, and completing a number of fit-outs for clients such as CyberCX and Montarne. “We’re not just specialists in construction and seismic upgrades, but we’re interior fitout specialists too,” observes Simon, noting that CAPE has just secured fit-out contracts for Berkshire Hathaway and RNZ, and has recently completed another for Assa Abloy, a global leader in access solutions. Another award-winning project for CAPE involved a building refurbishment, seismic upgrade, re-clad and fit-out on Cook St for LyLo, where the team’s recommendation to move from timber to lightweight steel resulted in considerable cost savings. There have been many other standout projects, such as the seismic upgrade and refurbishment of the city’s Wintergardens, guide dog training facilities for BLVNZ, and respite villas for The Wilson Home Trust. CAPE mostly services Auckland and its surrounding suburbs, but is equipped for work as far north as Whangarei and south to Hamilton. The company also has international project experience. A fast-paced programme to refurbish villas at a private island resort in Fiji was delivered in 2015. Two years later, CAPE was called back in the wake of Tropical Cyclone Winston to refurbish and re-roof every building on the island.
