Having launched the business in 2021, Hamish brings a combination of hands-on building experience and thoughtful leadership as he grows both his company and his young family. With a background that includes contracting for well-established builders, Hamish says his mentors have played an important role in shaping the way he runs Younger Builders today. Younger Builders now has a team of 12, with plans for further expansion as Hamish focuses on putting the right systems and people in place to support sustainable growth. “The best advice I’ve been given is that business growth is all about systems, and having the right people in the right roles, both on the job site and in the business,” he says. “We’re now at the point where I’m looking for an administrator to help manage the office side of things, especially as the workload increases.” Balancing business growth with family life is a priority for Hamish. “Our family has been growing alongside the business, so we’ve had to learn when to step back and spend time together,” he says. “Ultimately, putting the business first is part of putting family first, because providing for the family depends on making the business work.” That ethos of care and balance extends to the team culture at Younger Builders. Regular Friday afternoon get-togethers at the company’s Mangawhai yard are a way for Hamish to show appreciation for his crew and keep morale high. A recent team review focused on goal setting and professional development, with Hamish committed to providing opportunities for his staff to grow their skills and take on more responsibility. “I want to help my team build better, think smarter, and take pride in their work,” he says. “We’re pretty relaxed about things like time off. It’s important that we all maintain a healthy work-life balance.” Younger Builders specialises in high-quality new-home builds, renovations, and alterations, with a strong focus on delivering lasting value for clients.
