HGL Ltd T T Nicki Woodlock “We offer a more friendly, approachable solution. We focus more on customer service as a key differentiator. We’re more flexible and offer more efficient solutions.” REGIONAL DEVELOPMENT HGL is an all-encompassing global freight logistics provider, based just outside of Auckland and the New Zealand arm of Hemisphere Freight Services Ltd – a UK firm that started as one small office in 1989 and grew to become one of the largest independent providers of logistics solutions across Europe, Asia, Australasia, North America, South America and Africa. Richard Davies, originally from Suffolk in the United Kingdom, founded HGL Limited in 2016 after relocating to New Zealand. With over 30 years’ experience in the freight and logistics industry, he had previously served as a general manager at Hemisphere Freight Services in the UK from 2002. Richard leads and supports a team of seven people at HGL Ltd, with the office based in Patumahoe south of Auckland, and offering great access to Auckland airport. The team specialises in providing global supply-chain solutions and handles every aspect of clients’ cargo needs from start to finish, regardless of point of origin or destination. HGL’s logistics services include road haulage, ocean freight, air freight and authorised transit facility solutions. They can deliver freight-forwarding services customers require anywhere in the world. Specialist services include abnormal loads, automotive services, dangerous goods, e-commerce logistics and energy transport. Through its global partner network and long-standing relationships with international shipping lines, airlines and equipment specialists, HGL offers competitive rates and seamless door-to-door solutions anywhere in the world. Whether a customer is looking to move a single pallet, or needs to charter an entire vessel, there’s nothing the company can’t handle. “We can move anything and everything, as long as the customer is going to be satisfied,” says Richard. “Anything – from alcohol from Mexico, heavy machinery from Japan, steamboats to Australia, to 1200 tonne cranes from Singapore. “Anyone can come to us to bring anything into New Zealand and we can help organise that – and vice versa.” As to what sets HGL Ltd apart from other freight and logistics companies, Richard says: “We offer a more friendly, approachable solution. We care more than any other company does. We focus more on customer service as a key differentiator. We’re more flexible and offer more efficient solutions.” says Richard. “Attitude – we don’t give up, we’re honest, we talk to customers and provide great customer service. We respond quickly, professionally, and offer the best solutions. We try to provide three different options when providing a quote, empowering our clients.” Giving back to the community and being part of a greater network is important to HGL. It sponsors the Patumahoe women’s netball team and UK rugby player Brandon Lynch from the Stowemarket rugby team. HGL is an industry member of the Customs Brokers and Freight Forwarders Association (CBAFF) LOGIX and the G7N Logistics Networks professional organisations. Recent innovations for the business include a newly launched live tracking system for customers to track their shipment. Plus, HGL is also now developing a shipping chatbot, which is about three to four months from launch. “We’re always looking to expand and move forward,” Richard says. “If the customers need it, and we know we can do it well and efficiently, we’re the company to talk to.”
