In many ways, it resembles a 5-star hotel. Apartments come with balconies, making the most of the gorgeous views, while ground-level apartments flow to elegant outdoor patios. “There’s a segment of the market looking for something different, and at this location in an affluent area in Auckland, we have responded to that,” says Stuart. “The Remuera mansion look inspired the style at Summerset St Johns. The finish in the apartments and amenity spaces is the best we have ever done. “Ultimately, though, it’s the residents and our staff who create the atmosphere and caring character of our villages. What really sets us apart is how we look after our residents and what we provide for them. We’ve added some special touches at St Johns – for example, there’s even a chauffeur-driven Mercedes that residents can book for free for local excursions.” Visitors to the village enter through a porte cochere, off St Johns Road, before parking by a beautiful water feature. Inside the main building is a two-level atrium with reception area. Ahead can be seen magnificent views out to Rangitoto. This main building includes two levels of basement parking (‘The Podium’), two levels of facilities including a gym, spa, swimming pool, hair salon, bar and café. Above that are four-levels of apartments, 26 in total, including penthouses and premium apartments. Next to it is a six-level building with memory care, care suites and four levels of serviced apartments (100 units) to provide continuum of care. Also completed in the first stage was another four-level building with 42 independent living apartments. “We delivered another building, split over four levels and providing 24 independent living apartments, at the end of last year. We’re now working on two more buildings, one with 35 apartments and one with 84. These will be delivered through this year – the village will then be 90% complete,” says Stuart. Surrounding the buildings are beautifully landscaped grounds that include a bowling green, an outdoor kitchen and ponds, all with ocean views out to Rangitoto. The larger of the two new buildings under construction, with apartments split over eight levels, is the tallest on site. One further, three-level building, comprising 12 apartments and with entry off Ripon Crescent, will follow these two latest builds to complete the village. Summerset St Johns is one of 17 villages under some form of construction at the moment, including another metro project at Half Moon Bay, Auckland.
