58 | MANUFACTURING NZ Manufacturing T T Bernadette Cooney A sweet deal for local manufacturer The business has evolved into a multi-faceted engineering group. NZ Manufacturing Group of Tauranga has taken a giant step in expanding its product offering to the world, having secured its first commission and installation of a large-scale honey-processing system in the US. The company is materialising its export ambitions through its brand, Crystech NZ, which has been supplying New Zealand and Australian apiarists with honey extraction, processing and packing equipment since its inception in 2009. “Our inaugural installation into the US is a good win for us,” says NZ Manufacturing director, Mathew Still. “All our equipment, which was manufactured here in New Zealand, is now shipped, and installation starts next week. We’re sending our own people to oversee commissioning, taking responsibility from design to installation.” Its strategy to expand its market reach internationally and grow global demand will also see NZ Manufacturing set to exhibit at Apimondia, the international beekeeping conference in Denmark later this year. “We’ve got a full range of New Zealand-designed-and-built honey extraction, processing and packing solutions, and we’re putting our feelers out to grow demand internationally,” says Mat. “We only need a little piece of the world’s work to be happily kept busy down here in New Zealand.” Originally founded as The Stainless Factory in 2004 by Bruce and Richard Lowe, offering specialised stainless steel fabrication for the food and beverage industry, the business has since evolved into a multi-faceted engineering group, which rebranded to NZ Manufacturing in 2017 to better reflect its capabilities. NZ Manufacturing encompasses a portfolio of companies: Crystech for apiculture, E-Box for the manufacture of waterproof electrical enclosures for some of New Zealand’s largest metering and utility suppliers, and Street- scape, acquired in 2005, which designs and manufactures street furniture and lighting solutions for open-space environments. In 2024, the company added Quinn Engineering to its suite of company brands, a long-standing engineering firm at Kerepehi in the Hauraki Gulf, first established in 1964. “Bringing Quinn into our group has allowed us to expand our manufacturing plant and product range – moving into new markets, particularly within residential accessibility and agriculture,” Mat explains. Quinn Engineering specialises in short-rise elevators and multi-level lifts for the residential and commercial building sector to support wheelchair accessibility and personal mobility in new builds and retrofits. Its proximity to Hauraki’s rural region also sees Quinn Engineering providing a suite of farm equipment, such as bale grabs, bin tippers and forklift attachments. “Having a presence in a rural region like Hauraki means we’re close to the customers who need these solutions most.” NZ Manufacturing employs a team of 45 across all company brands. Its experienced designers and fabricators can tailor solutions to a diverse range of industries, from agriculture to construction and urban design. NZ Manufacturing prioritises keeping every process in-house – from raw material intake to finished product – to ensure quality control, precision customisation and quicker turnaround times. “We tend to customise most things in some way to suit the end user, which you can’t do with imported products, generally, because they are out of the box,” says Mat. “Our strength is being able to adapt to each job, in any sector.” Proudly supporting NZ Manufacturing 027 362 7754 coastalspraykote@yahoo.co.nz CNC Machining Specialisits Specialising in batch runs of turned and milled components, we service manufacturers throughout New Zealand who need a supplier of component parts for their production line.
