GT Civil T T Hugh de Lacy CIVIL CONSTRUCTION The “deep and challenging” work in three waters, drainage and civil projects is the specialty of Cambridge-based company GT Civil, says contracts manager Haydyn Price. “We’re geared to take on and specialise in projects that really address engineering challenges, such as the current projects we have installing large bulk water mains for both Waipa District Council in the Waikato, and Whakatane District Council in the Bay of Plenty,” says Haydyn. “Both projects involve upgrading the existing water infrastructure and increasing capacity for future growth within the respective regions, and it’s typical of the larger-scale work we do for local authorities and private clients. “Our market niche includes the likes of sheet piling and de-watering, and GT Civil has made a name for itself from the Bombay Hills in the north to Taupo in the south. “Our head office in Cambridge has 28 staff, and we have a branch in Tauranga with 12 staff, all supported by a comprehensive range of plant, from excavators and trucks to loaders, front dumpers, wheeled and crawler cranes,” he says. GT Civil has installed kilometres of stormwater and wastewater pipelines, ranging in diameter from 150mm to 2.3m, along with such structures as manholes and chambers. “We also install large PE bulk water mains up to 800mm-diameter, via open trench, direction drilling and micro tunnelling, offering a safe and innovative way of delivering wastewater, water main and stormwater pipes and infrastructure, no matter the depth or complexity. “We’re a proven installer of pump stations, both stormwater and wastewater, be they fibreglass, precast or in situ concrete, and offer a design-and-build option for pump station construction,” Haydyn says. A further specialty is retaining walls, be they gabion basket, timber pole, concrete pile, rock buttress or timber crib, supported by ground and soil anchors. Earthmoving of all kinds is a further company specialty. GT Civil was founded in 2014 by professional engineers Tim Graham and Nathan Thomas, who built its reputation on tackling the toughest and most demanding civil and infrastructure projects. “Whether it’s an environmentally sensitive area or a road corridor, we’ve got the capacity to deliver it on time and within budget, and the reputation for doing so,” Haydyn says. The company’s plant is based around the Hyundai brand machines supplied by Porter Equipment, and includes excavators in sizes from 1.7 to 40 tonnes, front dumpers and rollers, as well as wheel loaders fitted out as tool carriers. “Our gear is specified to a high standard, and we’re at the forefront of technological developments, with all our excavators fitted with GPS machine control for accuracy and efficiency, and several of our rollers, including our four-tonne double drum, converted to remote control operation. “We recently started up a structures division, focusing on structural concrete, foundations, bases and small precast elements that are part of the infrastructure projects we deliver for our clients,” Haydyn says.
