CONSTRUCTION When the Auckland weather turns nasty, as in the Anniversary Weekend floods in 2023, insurance reinstatement company BP Bartlett Construction gets busy. The 14 staff members, comprising handson building tradespeople, professional estimators and project managers, get involved in a flurry of activity at BP Bartlett Construction’s premises in Drury South as insurers rush to get repairs done – especially in the wake of weather events. The company’s job is to assess repairs needed, and either fix them itself or engage contractors to do the work. Weather events aside, there’s a steady call on the company for assessment and repair strategies where other building damage has occurred. “It’s all hands on deck when a major weather event strikes Auckland,” BP Bartlett Construction director Stephen Bartlett says. “Our assessors work hard to get repairs underway, supported by our reliable team of contractors and full-time building staff. “Much of our work involves water damage, flooding and leaking roofs, but we also deal with trees and fences blown down, as well as car impacts and tornado damage. In the wake of such things as weather events, everybody wants to get their problems fixed first, and it’s our job to organise everything on behalf of the insurance companies. “And those companies rate us highly: we’re regularly audited by them and we consistently come out on top, and we’re proud to be the preferred suppliers for several major insurers.” Stephen is a director and owner of BP Bartlett Construction, along with his older brother Aaron Bartlett, with Stephen leading the project-management team and Aaron running the estimating side. The company was founded by their father, Brian Bartlett, in 1975. “He started as a sole trader and went on to incorporate the business in 1986 as he began focusing more heavily on insurance reinstatement work,” Stephen says. The sons joined the company straight out of school – Aaron in the early 1990s and Stephen in 2007. Aaron completed his carpentry apprenticeship and became a licensed building practitioner, while Stephen also completed an apprenticeship and later brought his wealth of IT knowledge into the business. Brian has retired, and his sons have expanded the business further in the insurance reinstatement sector. “The core values that Brian stood for – reputation, integrity, service and caring for clients – remain the driving force behind our business today,” Stephen says. They are supported by trusted local contractors, who carry out repairs under BP Bartlett Construction’s management – a flexible model that allows the business to scale capacity up or down as needed. “The market is steady, but we’re looking to expand further by strengthening our relationship with insurance companies and moving into the North Waikato region,” Stephen says. “Although there are plenty of changes underway in the insurance reinstatement sector, we continue to see it as our core business. “Our skillset is aligned with the needs and demands of this industry, and we’re looking to supplement our insurance work with direct-to-client projects, early childhood centre work and rental portfolio maintenance.” Aluminium window & door repair specialists Conservatory re-roofing services Email: info@ajr.co.nz With BTA PAINTING, you can count on a finish you’ll admire for years to come.
