Established by Sasha Langham, her father Geoff Langham, and her husband Troy Gorst, the business has grown from humble beginnings into a trusted and capable operator in drainage across both residential and commercial sectors. “Troy has worked in the drainage industry for a long time, and he would come home and tell us stories about jobs that had not gone smoothly,” Sasha says. “We saw there was an opportunity to do better.” With Troy’s hands-on industry knowledge, Sasha’s background in marketing, and Geoff’s extensive business experience, the trio combined their strengths to fill a gap they believed could be better serviced. What began as “a man and a van” operation, unblocking drains and providing CCTV inspections, has now grown into a fully fledged team of 16, operating across Auckland. With a client base spanning from residential customers with a blocked drain to property managers, plumbers, body corporates and large commercial companies, Drain Ninjas has three drain-unblocking vans with cameras, and five vacuum trucks used for grease trap cleaning, septic tanks, hydro excavation, stormwater maintenance and everything in between. The team also includes qualified drainlayers and apprentices, who undertake installations throughout the Auckland region. But what really sets Drain Ninjas apart isn’t just what they do – it’s how they do it. “We keep the lines of communication open with clients, letting them know when we are coming or if we are going to be late,” Sasha says. “We also provide detailed notes, photos and invoicing for each job.” Equally important is looking after their team. With a culture focused on inclusivity and collaboration, Sasha is proud of how everyone in the business contributes to its success. “We try to make our team feel included in decision-making, and keep the floor open for ideas – they are not just a number,” she says. “We are all cogs in the machine, and if even a small cog fails, the whole machine breaks down.” Training, Health & Safety, and team building are ongoing priorities, enabling Drain Ninjas to take on significant projects with confidence – including a lengthy contract with Fulton Hogan. For the past three years, the team has been contributing to Fulton Hogan’s major roading network upgrade between Kumeu and Waimauku. The project involves hydro excavation and the installation of fibre to homes, as well as road widening. “For a small team like us it’s pretty cool,” Sasha says. “We are not the cheapest option, but our team is so good at what they do, and we are efficient.” Other key clients include Coca-Cola, Keri Juice and Inghams, for whom Drain Ninjas provide maintenance drainage services, and Container Co in Wiri. They have also just secured a three-year contract decommissioning red-stickered homes’ septic tanks. - Fleet servicing & preventative maintenance - Diagnostics & mechanical repairs - Pre-Cof/WOF inspections & compliance repairs - Vehicle modifications and safety upgrades - Certified welding & custom fabrication (stainless, aluminium & steel) WHAT WE DO WHY CHOOSE US? - Fully equipped mobile workshop - Fast turnaround on all jobs - Heavy and light vehicle expertise - High quality workmanship - Competitive fleet rates Mechanical & Fabrication Services for all kinds of projects.
