T T Anne Boswell People often say that working with family is a recipe for conflict, but for brothers Daniel and Bram Cleland, it has been the foundation of a thriving business that is celebrating a major milestone this year. HVAC company, Condair Air Conditioning, marks its 40th anniversary in 2026, reflecting four decades of steady growth, strong relationships and a commitment to quality across the commercial and industrial sectors. Founded in 1986 by Daniel and Bram’s parents, the business has been owned by the brothers for the past decade. Both effectively grew up in the company, with Bram having worked at Condair for 26 years and Daniel for 24, and both also gaining valuable business experience overseas. Specialising in commercial and industrial climate solutions, Condair is capable of delivering every part of the process, from design and installation through to ongoing servicing and maintenance. The company manages projects up to $10 million, and typically has between 28 and 30 installation projects underway at any one time. Alongside Condair’s design and installation work, the servicing division maintains between 350 and 400 commercial sites, providing preventative maintenance, repairs and emergency callouts for facilities ranging from hospitals through to smaller commercial buildings. Today, Condair employs 40-plus people, including design engineers, quantity surveyors, project managers, installers, technicians and human resources and Health & Safety personnel across its Hamilton and Tauranga branches, serving clients throughout Waikato, South Auckland and the Bay of Plenty. Growth is high up the agenda for Condair, with increasing demand across North Waikato and South Auckland. Bay of Plenty business is also booming, with the plans for the development of a commercial site in Tauriko, Tauranga recently coming to fruition. Designed by Edwards White Architects, who also designed Condair’s Hamilton workshop seven years ago, the building occupies a prominent corner site, chosen for its visibility and ease of access. The dual-tenancy development includes office and workshop space on both levels. Originally, Daniel and Bram intended for Condair to occupy the upper tenancy, but strong buyer interest changed those plans. “When someone came along with a very good offer, it made sense to sell,” Bram says. The successful sale has only strengthened their confidence in future developments, with plans already underway to pursue another Tauranga project, and plans for a new development on land adjoining its Hamilton headquarters. Despite continued expansion, Bram says the company’s values remain at the heart of everything it does. From being honest and courageous, to respecting and supporting one another and maintaining a healthy work-life balance, Condair’s philosophy is about doing the right thing for staff, clients and the wider community. “We are not perfect, but it is our aim to adhere to these values,” Bram says.
