The Auckland- and Northland-based company has been quietly building a portfolio of complex marina and marine civil engineering projects, establishing itself as a specialist in the field since its founding in 2019. “We partner with our clients to guide them through the design and construction process from concept to completion, providing innovative solutions to complex problems and delivering quality outcomes,” says Rob Brown, the company’s managing director and a chartered professional civil and structural engineer with 20 years’ experience in the marine industry. The company’s recent work includes a comprehensive redevelopment of piers G, H, J, K and L at Westhaven Marina in Auckland, where it has worked with Westhaven Marine since 2019. Acting as the clients’ engineer, Shorewise created the masterplan for the complete redevelopment of multiple piers within the marina, then oversaw each stage. Shorewise also worked with Auckland Council to create the design for the Karanga Plaza harbour pool, including repurposing existing pontoons. “We provided the structural design, tender documents and acted as the clients’ engineer,” says Rob. A significant project is the new 114-berth Okara Marina in Whangarei. Shorewise has worked with the marina trust since 2019 to provide design and project-management services for the project. The construction of stage 2 is nearing completion with the reclamation constructed, M Pier complete and the site services being installed. “The five-stage plan aims to see the full marina development complete by 2030. “This is a complex project, including reclamation works in variable ground conditions, supplying all services into the site, monitoring of existing adjacent services and structures, civil works for the car park, a new marina building, and managing a multi-disciplinary team,” says Rob. The company has also been involved in significant work at the Bay of Islands Marina. Since 2019, Shorewise has worked with Far North Holdings to provide condition assessments and a redevelopment design for the marina. The latest works at A Pier and Fuel Pier involved demolishing the old wharf and Fuel Pier, with partial redevelopment of A Pier to provide additional berths up to 27 metres, and a dedicated biosecurity space, as well as the full replacement of the Fuel Pier to provide 42 metres of fuel berthage. The re-piling work at Marsden Cove Marina is another example of how the company provides condition assessments and advice on refurbishment works, says Rob. “The latest project for Marsden Cove Marina involved providing pile design, contract documents, and acting as the clients’ engineer for the replacement of intermediate piles across the marina.” Other recent projects include Sulphur Point Marina, where Shorewise has worked with the Tauranga Marina Society since 2022. Showcasing how the company builds longterm and valued relationships with clients, it is providing condition assessments for the old marina, and engineering oversight and compliance reporting for the replacement of piers A to F, with works due for completion in 2026. The firm has also made its mark on new developments, including the Panepane Pontoon at Tauranga Harbour, where Shorewise provided the pontoon piling and gangway design for the new wharf facility. Since its inception, Shorewise Engineering Consultants has specialised in the design and management of marine and civil structures. The firm offers a comprehensive range of engineering services including marina design, structural design, coastal engineering, condition assessments, consents and engineering management, as well as the preparation of tender, construction and ‘as-built’ documentation. It also provides construction observation, pile design and installation advice, and acts in clients’ engineer roles. Rob started Shorewise to provide a boutique experience for clients in the marine industry, drawing on his two decades of expertise in the sector. “Our approach focuses on partnering with clients throughout the entire project lifecycle, from initial concept through to final completion,” he says. With major projects continuing through to 2030, and a growing reputation for delivering complex marine infrastructure solutions, Rob says Shorewise Engineering Consultants will continue to provide clients with specialist expertise combined with a client-focused approach. commercialdivespecialists.co.nz 021 731 775 PROUDLY SUPPORTING SHOREWISE ENGINEERING CONSULTANTS With over 35 years of industry experience, we have all of your surveying needs covered. +64 21 969 249 brucew@bnwalkersurveying.co.nz www.bnwalkersurveying.co.nz Engineering & Civil Construction Underground Service Detection & Mapping Laser Scanning | Open Cast Mining Surveying Proudly Supporting Shorewise Engineering Consultants
