McLaren Guise Associates Limited is strengthening its position as a specialist adviser to small and medium-sized businesses with a particular focus on tradespeople, property developers and other growing local enterprises. “Our work is centred on providing practical, accessible inancial support tailored to the realities of running hands-on businesses in fast-moving industries where cash low, timing and compliance pressures can be signi icant,” says Director at McLaren Guise Associates Limited Richard Guise. He says the practice was built around the needs of owner-managed businesses that often require more than standard compliance services, particularly important as the building sectors often face uneven income cycles and complex project budgeting, making proactive inancial management essential. “We work very closely with our clients to make sure they have a clear understanding of their inancial position and what it means for their day-to-day decisions. A lot of our clients are busy running sites, managing sta or dealing with suppliers, so they need advice that is straightforward and actionable. Our approach is to simplify accounting processes ensuring business owners retain visibility over costs, margins and tax obligations.” A key example of this work is Hutton Developments, which McLaren Guise Associates Limited has supported through ongoing inancial reporting, tax planning and project cash low management. Richard says the relationship re lects the irm’s broader focus on long-term partnerships rather than transactional services. “With clients like Hutton Developments it is about understanding how each project moves through its stages and ensuring the inancial structure supports that progression.” He says many SMEs are currently operating in a challenging environment, with rising material costs, labour shortages in some trades and continued pressure from lending conditions. These factors make forecasting and cash low planning more important than ever, particularly for businesses that are scaling up or taking on larger contracts. In response McLaren Guise Associates Limited has expanded its advisory o ering beyond traditional compliance work, providing budgeting support, management reporting, and strategic planning services. Richard says this shift re lects a growing demand from business owners who want more real-time insight into performance rather than retrospective reporting alone. The irm has also invested in digital accounting systems designed to give clients faster access to inancial data and improve decision-making across ongoing projects. Richard says technology has improved e iciency but stresses that personal service remains central to the practice’s identity. “The tools are important but it is the relationship and the understanding of each client’s business that really makes the di erence.” Practical financial support Lincoln Manor, 293 Lincoln Road, Waitakere City www.mclarenguise.co.nz WE HAVE THE SOLUTIONS TO YOUR BUSINESS NEEDS... T T Karen Phelps When Gerard Hutton was a lad growing up on Auckland’s Te Atatū Peninsula, he never thought that one day he would be undertaking a residential development there. His company, Hutton Developments, has just launched Gloria Gardens on to the market, a collection of six premium townhouses at 41 Gloria Avenue – four terraced homes and two standalone properties. The location couldn’t be better; the development sits adjacent to Gloria Avenue Park, with the master bedrooms of the terraced homes enjoying views directly over it. Gerard says the aim was to deliver a development that offers more spacious terraced homes than is the norm. “There is really nothing else like this on the market on the Peninsula, so it is a great opportunity for people to secure a brand-new home in a fantastic location,” he says. The four terraced homes offer three bedrooms across three storeys, each spanning 120sqm. The ground floor features a powder room alongside open-plan living, kitchen and dining space. The second storey has two bedrooms, a bathroom and laundry and the top floor is where the master suite with a walk-in wardrobe and ensuite is located. The two standalone homes are two-bedroom properties of 100sqm. The ground floor offers open-plan living and kitchen, a water closet, laundry and generous outdoor yards, something Gerard says is a rarity in Auckland’s current housing market. Both bedrooms on the upper storey feature walk-in wardrobes. Each home in the development also includes a work office, generous storage solutions and off-street parking. The exterior palette draws on a mix of cedar cladding, brick and metal cladding, giving Gloria Gardens a distinctive, contemporary streetscape. Gerard says the interiors throughout Gloria Gardens stand out. High stud ceilings and floor-to-ceiling timber balustrades create a sense of space, and the terraced homes’ master bedrooms feature gable ceilings. Kitchens are fitted with stone bench tops, central islands and top-of-the-line appliances. The quality of finishes is important, reflecting a philosophy Gerard developed long before he broke ground on his first home. “Starting my career building boats for one of the world’s largest boat building companies, when I was just 15 years old taught me the importance of craftsmanship and perfection,” says Gerard. “The craftsmanship expected on super yachts is extremely high, higher than for a typical home. It was a good way to really develop an eye for detail and getting things looking as pristine as possible. In my early 20s I made the shift to building houses, and it is this kind of attention to detail and perfection I now aim for with every home I build.” That ethos underpins everything Hutton Developments does. Based in Auckland, it specialises in high-end residential new builds and renovations, and has its own machinery, making it a one-stop company, capable of managing everything from groundworks up. Each home at Gloria Gardens comes with a 10-year Halo Warranty and a 12-month defect repair period. Gerard says that Te Atatū Peninsula offers residents the appeal of coastal living without sacrificing urban convenience. Coastal walking tracks run along the Waitematā Harbour and a 12-minute drive connects residents to central Auckland, while the NorthWest Shopping Centre is just a short trip away.
