T T Sue Russell Adrian Whistler isn’t surprised that Outer Spaces Ltd, the Waihi Beach landscaping design and construction business he co-directs with wife Desiree Perham, has grown to what it is today since forming in 2007. “I have an excellent team working with me and skilled contractors I can call on when required,” says Adrian. “We have very high standards and like nothing more than the challenge of creating a bespoke outdoor space that our clients can enjoy looking at and living in,” he says. He hired his team based on the skills needed to add to the suite of capabilities, with the first person being a carpenter as they soon found they were getting more and more complicated work. Then came a qualified landscape gardener, with a much deeper plant knowledge than Adrian had, followed by a landscape architect. These days Outer Spaces employs ten full time and two part time staff, offering clients a broad sweep of disciplines and experiences to draw on. Adrian’s the first to acknowledge he possesses the attitude that, if approached, they will consider taking on almost anything and that the context of projects has definitely expanded through the years. While centrally based in Waihi Beach, Outer Spaces Ltd can be found working in a wide array of situations across the Coromandel and Western Bay of Plenty.
