BUILDING Deloitte Fast 50 ranked business, the Auckland tiny home builder HouseMe, is one of the fastest-growing companies in New Zealand. From 2023 to 2024, HouseMe moved from 42nd to 23rd place in the Deloitte Fast 50, growth that co-owner and general manager sales and marketing Bryce Glover attributes to investing strongly into growing sales and production. HouseMe specialises in the construction and supply of competitively priced, transportable tiny homes, sleep-outs and cabins of 15 to 52sqm. Continued expansion has seen the business move to its present site, which is larger than two football fields, and includes two factory facilities of 11,000sqm on 2.3 hectares in Takanini. “We’ve grown it from a team of 12 in 2018 to now where we have 120 staff and contractors building and delivering 30 to 40 homes per month, and we’re in the process of setting up our eighth show home site,” says Bryce. Investing in show homes has been a key part of HouseMe’s growth strategy, both as a pathway to expansion and to increasing its visibility nationwide. In addition to its show home in Takanini, the company has show homes in Whangarei, Waikato, Bay of Plenty, Hawke’s Bay, Manawatu and Christchurch. “Our growth model involves putting show homes in different regions,” explains Bryce. “We’ve invested heavily into advertising and growing the brand, and then putting key people in key positions in the business and developing from within. “I often say to my business partners that 2025 has been the most exciting year for us yet, and I feel like I’m just getting started, and I know that that attitude and that sentiment is quite common throughout the business. “In the last couple of years we seem to have bucked the [economic] trend. We understand that when the interest rates went through their rapid rise, that significantly affected the economy, and more specifically the construction industry.” By focusing on its core business and “staying in our lane” for providing affordable buildings, HouseMe has thoroughly bucked this trend. “We spent the last couple of years ‘getting fit’ and now we’re really starting to run, so all the efforts that the business and the people have invested in, in the last couple of years, while it’s been really tough it’s really starting to come to fruition now. We are excited that recently we are ranked as number six in the top 10 busiest builders in New Zealand against many well-known brands.” This ranking was measured by data specialist BCI Central, which in April this year, released a list of the 50 most-active builders nationally. HouseMe has a standardised approach to manufacturing based on quality and controlling costs, including through economy of scale, bulk purchasing and lean manufacturing processes, which means customers benefit from extremely competitive pricing and short lead times. HouseMe’s buildings are constructed with a galvanised steel chassis for the floor, with the walls and ceiling comprising EPS and PIR foam-insulated panels and complemented with low emissivity double-glazed windows for superior insulation and energy efficiency, The buildings have a multitude of uses, including for downsizers, retirees, first-home buyers, granny flats and for worker accommodation, among others. Lead times are typically eight to 10 weeks from deposit to delivery. “We’re generally building anywhere between 26 to 33 homes at once,” Bryce says. House prices range from a one-bedroom dwelling at $75,000 to a three-bedroom premium home at $149,000, with a small studio starting at $49,500.
