Rahim Projects “As a small, family-run business, we’re grateful to our clients, team, and everyone who continues to back Rahim Projects.” BUILDING Family-owned building company Rahim Projects has won the Industrial & Trade category at the 2025 Ōtorohanga Districts People’s Choice Business Awards, recognising its commitment to providing exceptional service in the community. Director Sai Rahim, who runs Rahim Projects with his wife and Ōtorohanga local Jenna, says the win means a lot to the couple. “It’s a reflection of the trust and support we’ve built within our community and we’re very proud,” he says. “As a small, family-run business, we’re grateful to our clients, team, and everyone who continues to back Rahim Projects.” Rahim Projects has recently completed a transformational project at Beattie Home & Hospital in Ōtorohanga, helping enable the facility to achieve hospital-level certification and provide the sorely-needed higher level of care for local aged-care residents. Sai says the project was a privilege to be part of because of the huge impact it will have on the community. “Before this project, if a resident required hospital-level care they had to be moved out of town, which meant families couldn’t see their loved ones every day. That’s tough on everyone.” The project involved six renovated bedrooms, four of which are hospital standard, along with upgraded accessible bathrooms, a new nurses’ station and temperature-controlled medication room, a refurbished reception and waiting lounge, and new office spaces. The work was carried out in a fully operational environment, with Sai and his team navigating noise and safety challenges while residents and staff continued their daily routines. “Closing down wasn’t an option, so we had to be very clever about how we worked,” Sai says. “It wasn’t just about getting the job done; it was about minimising disruption for both staff and residents who are there 24/7.” An independent auditor was engaged to identify what was needed for certification, and Rahim Projects worked closely with Beattie Home & Hospital for six months to complete the upgrades, handing over on 1st March 2025, with the facility receiving hospital-level certification – a milestone for the small King Country town. “This was a project for the community, by the community,” Sai says. “The home has been part of Ōtorohanga for generations, and it means so much to local families. To have our name connected to such an important project is something we’re really proud of.” Rahim Projects only launched in 2023, making the Beattie Home upgrade a major achievement for the young company. Sai, a qualified builder and LBP with more than a decade of industry experience, has built a small but tight-knit team of staff and subcontractors. “I might be the face of the company, but it’s very much a team effort,” he says. “When I call on them, they deliver, and that consistency makes a big difference.” Community connections are at the heart of the business. Sai is also a volunteer firefighter in Ōtorohanga, and his drive to give back is shaped by his own background. Arriving in New Zealand as a refugee in 1999, originally from war-torn Kurdistan, he later worked for Gleeson Builders, a boutique high-end building company in Auckland where he gained his apprenticeship and invaluable experience under the guidance of his first mentor in the building industry - before settling in Ōtorohanga with Jenna and their two young daughters. As Rahim Projects continues to grow, the team remains open to a wide range of enquiries servicing the King Country and wider Waikato, from new builds and home renovations through to light commercial work.
