TRANSPORT INDUSTRY Ten 4 Transport Engineering After decades at the helm of Ten4 Transport Engineering in Northland, its founder Paul Christie has stepped back from daily operations, handing the reins to two long-time team members, Shaun Dodd and Gareth Eady. Both men started their careers under Paul, Gareth serving his apprenticeship straight out of high school, and Shaun returning to the business after completing his outside the region. The team provides on-site COF certification and repairs, keeping operators compliant and back on the road fast. From its base on Gumdigger Place in Whangārei, Ten4 Transport Engineering serves a broad client base from Kaitaia to Wellsford. Every build is completed in-house from design and profile cutting to paint, electrical work, and signwriting, so that when a truck rolls out of the Whangārei yard, it’s ready for work from day one, says Shaun. There are two main parts to the business, he says, the Repairs and Maintenance Division, led by Gareth, and a Manufacturing and General Engineering Division, led by Shaun. “Here we manufacture trucks for operators from Kaitaia to Invercargill and general engineering services to the likes of Fulton Hogan, HEB Construction, NZ Transport Agency Waka Kotahi and TR Group.” The Ten4 team is made up of 28 engineer tradesmen and apprentices during peak season and a full-time team of three design technicians, turning innovative ideas into practical solutions. “We’re focused on growing local talent and we’ve taken on several apprentices over the years.” The workplace culture is hands-on, supportive and driven by a shared commitment to getting the job done.
