62 | Gleeson Group T T Virginia Wright Growing group moves with the times The South Auckland based Gleeson Group has multiple divisions which work together using streamlined systems and operations as they haul bulk materials in and out of sites for construction, recycling, and disposal. One of its divisions, Gleeson & Cox Transport, has been hauling aggregate and civil engineering materials for over 50 years and been involved with almost every major infrastructure project across the Upper North Island. It’s the oldest of the divisions which has been added to in recent years as the Gleeson Group adapts and adjusts to market conditions to remain strong, with a group that now includes the Gleeson Huntly Quarry and Quarry Depot, Gleeson Managed Fill, Transport and Engineering Repairs, and also Momentum Tyres. The Gleeson story began as far back as 1912 with Daniel Gleeson and the Ford pickup he used for cream deliveries and pot-hole repairs through to 1938. His son Brian, together with his long-term friend Don Cox, kicked things off again in the 60’s with a single truck in Waiuku, to lay the foundations of what the company is today with Daniel Gleeson’s grandson James still involved. Gleeson Group has moved with the times to successfully manage fluctuations of economy and they’re proud to be a 100% New Zealand owned transport and construction materials business with one of the largest privately owned fleets in the industry. “We have multiple divisions all working together to build New Zealand,” says Gleeson & Cox Workshop Manager and General Manager of Momentum Tyres, Paul Dragt, who’s been working with Gleeson Group for 25 years. “We haul bulk materials in and out of construction sites. “We produce and supply aggregates and we handle fill materials to replace and rehabilitate extraction areas. T T from page 64 “But the most important thing is that we still do what we say we’ll do, just like we’ve done for nearly 60 years.” The acquisition of Huntly Quarry in 2018 means that Gleeson Group can supply as well as transport quality aggregates to projects throughout Auckland and the Waikato from their strategically positioned site near State Highway 1. The Quarry Depot operates as a transfer station and gives them more flexibility to manage the ever-moving timetable for delivery of bulk materials to meet customer demand. 8 Mepal Place, Papatoetoe, Auckland 09 250 4286 | admin@akltruckalign.co.nz Heavy truck • Trailer wheel alignments • Wheel balancing Commercial Alignment Specialists Congratulations to Gleeson Group on their success.
