64 | Moving with the times Gleeson & Cox Transport, has been hauling aggregate and civil engineering materials for over 50 years and been involved with almost every major infrastructure project across the Upper North Island. T T from page 62 Gleeson Group In 2019 when Momentum Tyres, the distributor for Aelous and Innings tyres, was looking to sell the business, Gleeson Group decided to buy it rather than change the brand of tyre they use on their truck and trailer rigs and their heavy machinery. What began as an initiative to import the brand for themselves has expanded until they now have 15 independent companies distributing their Aelous and Innings tyres and have recently added the American Venom Power 4 x 4 tyre to their catalogue. In 2024 the Transport & Engineering Repair division started heavy transport repairs and maintenance in a four-bay workshop in Wiri to give their sub-contractors an easy option when their trucks needed servicing and repairs. In the 18 months it’s been going, it has expanded to do repairs, maintenance, engineering and modifications for customers ranging from buses and waste-trucks to caravans. The most recent division to open was the Gleeson Managed Fill in the Waikato as part of their integrated logistics materials service. In line with Gleeson Group’s focus on sustainable practices, which dates as far back as their early adoption of low emission trucks and includes the gradual planting of a 340-hectare plantation forestry next to the Huntly Quarry, it only takes clean construction fill such as soil and rock, no rubbish. Typically, trucks come in to dump their clean fill then go to the quarry next door to take a load of roading metal or aggregate back with them. It’s a win-win all round as they provide a necessary service while attracting customers to the Huntly Quarry. Whether they’re transporting coal from the harbour to Huntly, carting material to and from the Eastern Busway under construction in Pakuranga, or taking a load of concrete blocks needed for a commercial retaining wall, Gleeson Group concentrates on being flexible and responsive to an ever-changing commercial and construction industry. As they manage moving bulk materials from start to finish, Gleeson Group has on-ground site staff, traffic controllers, and relocatable weighbridges all available as part of their solution to a transport project no matter how complex it is. “We’re always looking to streamline operations and integrate technology that connects our dispatch team to our drivers in order to get the job done efficiently effectively and safely,” says Paul. They pride themselves on their level of service and the flexibility which allows them to rapidly respond to their customers’ needs, developing tracking and dispatch software and always looking for innovations to improve their state-of-the-art communication and fleet management systems. After 60 successful years hauling goods around the north of the North Island Gleeson Group’s divisions work together to offer an efficient service clients can rely on whether they are starting a new project or reaching its end.
