INTERIOR DESIGN JC Design Jamie-Lee Monaghan of JC Design was recently recognised with a Highly Commended Award at the Trends International Design Awards (TIDA) in the New Zealand Group Home Builder Kitchen of the Year category. Jamie-Lee says she was thrilled by the achievement. Her award-winning entry showcased a complete suite of joinery, including kitchen cabinetry, a scullery, laundry, three vanities, and lounge cabinetry. “I’m proud that this design has been recognised and acknowledged among the phenomenal talent in our industry”. The award-winning entry was a collaboration with Fowler Homes, created for a couple building their forever home on a semi-rural property just outside Clevedon. With views across farmland, the new build features high ceilings and an open-plan living area. JC Design was commissioned to create bespoke cabinetry for the kitchen, scullery, laundry, three vanities, and lounge. The clients requested a style that struck a balance between modern and traditional, while ensuring durability. To achieve this, Jamie-Lee selected engineered stone for the kitchen benchtops, paired with a mix of acrylic and white woodgrain cabinetry panels. JC Design is an Auckland-based business specialising in kitchens, vanities, laundries, and bespoke cabinetry, providing design services across the wider Auckland region. The company has been operating for around 15 years, with Jamie-Lee taking over ownership five years ago from founder Jid Champness upon her retirement. “My role is to design. I do that in a variety of ways. I have clients that approach me directly, I have partnerships with builders, and I have cabinet makers that work with”. With a Bachelor of Spatial Design and an NKBA Certificate in Kitchen Design, Jamie-Lee spent five years working for a kitchen company before joining JC Design and eventually taking over the business. A Gold Design Member of the National Kitchen and Bathroom Association, she actively attends industry events to stay ahead of design trends. Most recently, she entered the Trends International Design Awards for the first time—coming away with a win. Jamie-Lee currently uses Winner Design 3D software and is transitioning to Vectorworks for advanced BIM, CAD, and 3D modelling. She finds that 3D modelling is an invaluable tool, helping clients clearly visualise her designs for their homes. Regarding what sets JC Design apart from competitors, Jamie-Lee says: “A genuine care for the client. I make sure they are working with the best people, and I see the project through from start to finish”. JC Design is currently working on several renovations in older homes and villas, many featuring traditional-style kitchens. Among the projects is a large kitchen renovation in St Heliers, utilising natural stone. JC Design has recently introduced tailored interior services, designed to improve specific areas of the home without requiring a full interior package. Jamie-Lee is also noticing growing demand for outdoor kitchens and custom cabinetry for built-in BBQ spaces. “Renovations are picking up. There’s more confidence. Interest rates have gone down. I’ve been fortunate to be very busy” “Renovations are picking up. There’s more confidence. Interest rates have gone down. I’ve been fortunate to be very busy”. Looking ahead, Jamie-Lee plans to launch a new JC Design website while continuing to prioritise her clients’ needs and maintaining strong relationships with her trusted builders. Jamie-Lee says, “I want to keep providing great award winning designs and service”. ljŀ ŀƗŀ 8ƁƁĊ info@thestonecollective.co.nz www.legacyjoinery.co.nz LEGACY JOINERY Residential and Commercial Kitchens & Cabinetry 09 953 1465 | info@legacyjoinery.co.nz 34A Leonard Road, Mt Wellington, Auckland 1060 PO Box 24564, Royal Oak, Auckland 1345
