A feature cedar façade was central to the architectural vision, but rising timber prices threatened to blow the budget. Aluminium screening was removed once the cedar had achieved the desired visual effect, and interior plywood wall linings were limited to only the lower sections that needed protection from vehicles and equipment. “That’s where experience comes in,” Atkinson says. “You find ways to save money without compromising the finished product or how the building performs.” That experience runs deep at Gibson Construction. Between Atkinson, fellow director Brent Bird and operations manager Hayden Pryor, the leadership team has close to 70 years of combined construction experience across rural, residential and commercial projects.
