With over 40 years’ experience in Northland, Engineering Pipe & Tube (EPT) Ltd is a sought-after supplier of quality engineering solutions and is used by many of the region’s largest production companies. Known for expertise in steel, aluminium and stainless steel fabrication, their specialist team works to support a range of industries - from agriculture, forestry, marine and construction to quarrying and manufacturing – that require efficient engineering solutions. EPT can design, create, manufacture and install parts as needed - saving time, money and effort for local businesses. Their skilled team is experienced in working with production machinery, plant and forestry equipment, such as log haulers. In the marine sector, EPT offers boat inspection and repair services with inhouse expertise to design and create bespoke items as required. As well, EPT has some of the best pipe bending capabilities in Northland. Operating from a convenient central location in Whangārei, EPT provides the highest level of precision engineering using the latest equipment. Recent investments include the purchase of two machining centres, a plasma cutting profile machine and CAD software such as Solidworks and Fusion 360, resulting in faster production and improved quality. “EPT Engineering is based at 7 Hewlett Street in the heart of Whangārei’s industrial area,” says co-founder Greg Burgess, who set up EPT with Mike Beckham in 2016. “We’re close to pots and haul out facilities and we’re also close to our suppliers and customers. Our large workshop and yard is close to the city centre and has easy access to State Highway 1 and Auckland.” Greg and Mike, who still jointly own and manage the business today, draw on extensive engineering skills and experience in providing a wide range of services and bespoke engineering solutions. They lead a highly capable crew of 15 staff, ranging from apprentices to machinists with over 150 years’ combined experience. As both are born and bred in Whangārei, Greg and Mike bring considerable knowledge and understanding of local industries to their leadership roles. They keenly support other local businesses by buying local products and services whenever possible. EPT’s expertise adds value to local businesses and communities. For example, their workmanship was recently put to use enhancing the Waipū Cycleway that stretches from Waipū village to Waipū Cove. “We were approached by the Waipū Cycleway Trust to make and install two shelters. This job came about as they had seen another shelter we had built for a customer in Ruakaka.” EPT is currently installing steam lines to connect up new boilers and autoclaves at Whangārei Hospital and has recently completed a maintenance shutdown for both Golden Bay Cement and the Fire Training Unit at Devonport Naval Base. Other recent projects, highlighting the scope of their work, include designing and manufacturing transitions and chutes for a quarry, installing a compressed air drier at Devonport, manufacturing and installing structural steel for various new home projects, manufacturing and installing bespoke pool fencing, and machining bow thruster tube and davits off the Spirit of New Zealand. “We believe EPT provides our customers with good quality engineering solutions. Whether that be new build or repairs, EPT have the facilities in house to be a one-stop shop.”
