It was in 2006 that this change occurred and the business was established by Morgan Greene, Paul Langford and Michael Baer who contracted their services to the club. Morgan still remains and today shares ownership alongside five other veterinarians and the practice manager ensuring it remains owned and operated by those who work within it daily. Despite the changes the club ethos remains, with client membership benefits including 15% discounts on veterinary services and 40% discounts on mileage. Today NSVets operates two fully equipped clinics in Riversdale and Te Anau, with twelve full-time equivalent veterinarians and daily services to branch clinics in Lumsden and Mossburn. The practice now supports over 55,000 dairy cows and offers comprehensive services across all species from traditional sheep and beef operations to modern deer farming and the region’s thriving equine industry. “We are proud of the fact that we’ve remained independent,” says Andrew. “A lot of practices are being swallowed by corporates, and this is happening throughout New Zealand, including Southland. We are owned and operated by the vets who work in the business every day, on the ground in our gumboots and overalls. We will continue to adapt and evolve to the needs of our clients, but remain committed to providing an independent veterinary model.” Paul who started working in Riversdale in 1972 and still works for Northern Southland Vets today.
