Joe says the company’s long-established in-house development structure has helped streamline that process. The Summerset development model has been refined since the company opened its first village in 1997. Development, design, consenting, construction, and village operations are all handled internally, allowing knowledge and experience gained from previous projects to carry directly into future developments. “We are the main contractor, the designer, and the client, so it is quite a unique structure,” Joe says. “Because everything is handled in-house, we can move quickly and apply lessons we have learned from previous villages.” The Prebbleton village reflects growing demand for retirement living options across the Selwyn district, where ongoing population growth continues to drive residential development. Joe says the sense of community already emerging at the village has been one of the most rewarding aspects of the project. “As more residents move in it really starts to develop that community feel,” he says. “You see friendships forming and people becoming part of something bigger.
