PD Builders is helping shape Central Otago’s architectural landscape, from full renovations and bespoke homes, along with careful restoration of an iconic historic property. Led by Paul and Lisa Davidson, the company has steadily built a reputation for quality craftsmanship, strong client relationships, and personalised service across the region. Among the company’s standout projects is the recent restoration and renovation of Earnscleugh Castle, near Alexandra, a complex three-year project that showcases the team’s craftsmanship and attention to detail. The project involved extensive structural strengthening and rebuilding work while carefully preserving the original character and integrity of the historic building. Floors were lifted and relaid, timber was custom manufactured to recreate original trims and framing details, and substantial structural reinforcing was completed throughout the property. Lisa says one of the biggest challenges was ensuring that all new work blended seamlessly with the existing heritage features. And, with the project now complete, the end result is one they can be proud of. “One of the most rewarding aspects has been hearing people comment on the finished result without realising which parts are original and which were rebuilt — a testament to the level of detail and perseverance involved.” However, for Paul and Lisa, Earnscleugh Castle represents more than just one of their many projects. “The Earnscleugh Castle project also highlights something that is especially important to PD Builders: relationships. After working closely together over three years, the clients became great friends, and the team is incredibly proud of what was achieved together,” Lisa says. Since it was established in 2018, PD Builders has built a strong reputation for its craftsmanship, reliability, and personalised service. Paul already had more than 35 years’ building industry experience, including 16 working throughout Central Otago with a previous business partner. Today, PD Builders continues to be shaped around Paul and Lisa’s core values of quality workmanship, honest communication and building strong relationships with their clients throughout every stage of the construction process. The business has welcomed steady growth over the years, along with a diverse range of projects, from window installations right through to bespoke high-end builds. All of their projects have helped them develop a reputation for versatility and attention to detail. For Paul and Lisa, one of the key factors behind the company’s growth has been a commitment to working closely alongside their clients to bring their vision to life, while ensuring homes are both functional and beautifully finished. Paul continues to see strong demand for homes that combine architectural design that focus on warmth, durability and functionality suited to the local lifestyle and environment. Like many businesses within the construction sector, PD Builders has faced challenges in recent years surrounding supply chains, fluctuating costs and market vulnerability. However, the company has adapted by remaining flexible and maintaining strong relationships with its key suppliers and sub-contractors.
