Switched On Group T T Kim Bowden From small plumbing fixes to major refurbishments of anything from airport terminals to early childhood centres, Switched On Facilities Management helps keep built environments running safely, smoothly and looking their best. Part of the wider Kā te Rama Switched On Group, the Christchurch-based company has grown steadily over more than 40 years since its beginnings as a local electrical business. Today, it provides a full suite of property and facilities services across the commercial, education and social housing sectors, with strong workloads in Canterbury and Wellington and an eye on national growth. Its facilities management arm focuses on ensuring the functionality and compliance of buildings, making sure everything works as it should, every day. Market Development Manager Nicola Tse says the team delivers both reactive and planned maintenance for clients such as Air New Zealand, Wellington Airport, the New Zealand Defence Force, Bunnings, Kmart, Queen Margaret College, Barnardos Aotearoa and BestStart Educare. Services span electrical inspections, plumbing, decorating, grounds maintenance and cleaning, coordinated to give clients a seamless, one-stop solution. “We can manage the work from end to end, from coordination to delivery,” Nicola says. “Businesses don’t have the time to spend on engaging with multiple trades.” The company’s footprint covers Canterbury and the wider Wellington region, including Manawatū and Palmerston North. In the South, much of its work centres on education and commercial properties, alongside social housing maintenance. While Switched On self-delivers many of its electrical and carpentry services, it also works with a trusted network of subcontractors for specialist trades. Project managers, site supervisors, quantity surveyors and pricing teams ensure each job meets the company’s quality and compliance standards. One particular success story is the proactive maintenance programme at Bunnings Lyall Bay. he store’s coastal location exposes it to salt air and moisture, so the team carries out regular rust treatments, exterior painting and protective coatings to keep the building resilient and looking sharp. It’s a collaborative effort that helps the site remain safe, functional and pleasant for customers and staff alike. Digital tools now play a growing role in scheduling, reporting and communication. “They make things easier not only for us, but also for our clients — offering better visibility over maintenance schedules and faster responses when something needs attention,” Nicola says, Switched On Group is majority Māoriowned through Te Rūnanga o Toa Rangatira, making it a rare iwi-owned national facilities provider. CONTRACTING A recent milestone was the acquisition of PAE New Zealand, a major national facilities maintenance company managing more than 4,000 buildings and completing 230,000-plus maintenance tasks each year. The move is a strategic step toward becoming one of the country’s largest integrated property-solutions providers, expanding capability and reach while retaining a strong community focus. It’s an approach that has guided Switched On since its early days. “We are confident and proud of the work we do,” Nicola says. “We embed people and communities in our values and demonstrate that through supporting local trades and community initiatives.” We can manage the work from end to end, from coordination to delivery,” Nicola says. “Businesses don’t have the time to spend on engaging with multiple trades.” Covering all of Christchurch & North Canterbury 343C Flaxton Road, Rangiora P: 03 313 5045 E: sales@floorpriderangiora.co.nz www.floorpriderangiora.co.nz | | | PROUD TO SUPPORT SWITCHED ON BUILDING SOLUTIONS · CARPET · VINYL · LAMINATE · HYBRID · TIMBER www.easybigtrees.co.nz write Where Summer stories sunlight and outdoors
