BUILDING Gardiner Construction Gardiner Construction’s latest development highlights the Christchurch company’s commitment to detail, design and craftsmanship. Family owned and established by Brett and Amy Gardiner, the company has grown into a trusted business known for its personal, hands-on approach. Brett and his highly skilled team have a range of builds under their belt, including the recent development of three standalone homes on Hoon Hay Road, each designed to suit a range of buyers. Located close to the city, the homes offer easy access to the motorway, Pioneer Stadium and the Port Hills, providing convenience, thoughtful design and strong, long-term value. “These homes aim to be appealing to a wide range of buyers, from first-home buyers, investors and over 60s,” Brett says. All three homes are now complete and ready for sale, another of Gardiner Construction’s projects that has delivered on both time frames and expectations. A key objective for the development was achieving affordability without compromising on quality, something Gardiner Construction prides itself on, no matter the project. “Our goal was to keep them affordable, but ensuring quality was never pushed to the side,” says Brett. To achieve that balance, the homes are finished with high-spec products more commonly found in higher-end builds. Each property includes custom-designed kitchens from Sydenham Joinery, complete with stone bench tops and timber flooring, as well as internal garaging, and a second toilet to enhance everyday living. Among the standout features that give the homes extra appeal are a 10-year Master Build Guarantee, pitched ceilings that create an extra sense of height and space, and the use of thermally modified pine from Health Based Building. “The oil used is plant based,” Brett says, which reflects the company’s growing focus on healthier, more sustainable options when selecting materials. Thoughtful landscaping, with an emphasis on native planting, helps further enhance the homes within their natural environment. Brett says while many developments come with challenges, depending on the site, their latest project was smooth, thanks in part to the company’s long-term relationships with trusted subcontractors. “Communication is easy – we know how each other works. Using the same crew each time ensures we know the quality of workmanship is high and that deadlines will be met,” he says. “We have built relationships based on trust and respect for each other’s professional trade.” Materials chosen also play a significant role in the project’s end result, and its longevity. “We used health-based timber for the featured cladding, white brick to complement the red brick used on the three units we built next door in 2022.” And, like all Gardiner Construction’s projects, attention to detail is paramount, from start to finish. “We have clear timelines to complete project goals, but quality workmanship is always at the forefront of each step,” he says. Brett oversees every stage of the build to ensure the company’s high standards are met. “I follow up on each step of the build. There has to be clear communication and timelines for contractors, merchants and the team.
