CONTRACTING Outline Spaces Outline Spaces is fast gaining a following across Canterbury and into Central Otago for captivating and functional landscape design services that carefully balance architecture with nature. Reinforcing their commitment to quality, expertise and trusted service, Outline Spaces proudly gained official accreditation last year with Registered Master Landscapers New Zealand. The studio-based practice, forged three years ago, is led by landscape and architectural designers Cameron and Kelly Pluck, with senior landscape designer Debbie Rimmer, who has worked in the industry for over 30 years, and landscape administrator Helen Hollister, who has vast experience with plant sourcing and coordination. Rounding out the team is studio administrator Niki Rendle. Kelly and Cameron are also at the helm of Outline Spaces’ sister company, Inline Architecture, with the two studios operating under the same roof and providing a complementary suite of architecture and landscaping services. “When we design homes, we don’t just stop at the exterior walls,” says Kelly. “Landscaping became quite a natural progression for Cam and I. We did some projects with Debbie, and got to know each other. It was a small step from there to set up Outline Spaces as a dedicated, landscape design specialist. We mostly service the mid- to high-level residential and rural lifestyle market; we love working with homeowners to transform their outside spaces.” As well as creating comprehensive landscaping plans, Outline Spaces can assist with plant selection and supply, along with quality assurance. With architectural expertise in the team, construction or consenting details can also be managed in-house. In only their first year as Registered Master Landscapers, Outline Spaces received bronze medal recognition at the Landscapes of Distinction Awards 2025 with a West Melton project, (‘Rustic Revival’). This project, delivered in partnership with Christchurch’s Elite Built, has transformed a previously nondescript area into a destination garden. It features spacious, elevated outdoor entertaining, with steps down to a sweeping lawn. Rock and tussock provide beautiful natural texture. A stepped-down, well-defined space with spa is an inspiring touch that’s sheltered and luxurious. “Previously, the owners did not like spending time in their garden,” Kelly says. “They came to us because they wanted a change – they say that this project has changed their lives. With their new spaces outside, they can live in a different way and are really enjoying their property.” Outline Spaces offers a range of landscape design packages from starter and standard to select for a completely tailored solution. There is complete transparency on both price and service at each level, so people know exactly what to expect. Every project starts with a consultation and a site measure, consideration of site restraints and the client’s unique style and needs. Options include hard landscaping plans, reference images and, with premium and above, 3D CAD views that can really bring ideas to life. Outline Spaces currently has projects underway on beautiful properties in Tai Tapu, Fendalton and North Canterbury, as well as Twizel and Central Otago. Trending this year is a preference for organic, naturalistic gardens with plenty of native plants as opposed to manicured hedges. “We’re definitely seeing that shift towards a more meadow style,” says Kelly.
