110 | BUILDING Ant Wallace Building T T Russell Fredric Positive moves for Tapanui company Another exciting development is the range of transportable homes now being offered. A visionary business operating from a small town, Ant Wallace Building is opening a main street showroom on the back of expanding into transportable homes. The company was founded by Ant and Donna Wallace nearly 10 years ago, based on creating a track record of quality to establish credibility in new residential and rural builds and renovations, mostly in and around Tapanui and West Otago. “It takes care of itself if you let your workmanship do the talking,” Ant says. “The biggest buzz I get out of it at the end of the day is that you’re creating someone’s dream. Someone’s got a vision and they come to us, and we’ve been able to make it reality for them.” With no other resident builder in Tapanui, Ant saw a gap in the market and the ability to provide a convenient service to both the town and wider region, with clients benefiting considerably from lower mileage costs. “I thought if we can give back to the West Otago area, it’s a nice way to provide a business here for them; we can help them out and save them a heap of travel costs. “The other good thing is too, we can also support other local business and charities.” Ant Wallace Building employs seven staff, and is also contributing by training apprentices, with one current apprentice being a highly motivated and talented female. The company’s new showroom will not only be convenient, it will be a great hub for ideas, offering the opportunity for clients to view range of materials, fittings and hardware samples, including for kitchens, bathrooms, floor coverings and blinds, plus there will be a display for rural shed options. “We are very grateful to our various suppliers, who have been extremely helpful and supportive for us in setting up the showroom – it’s going to look amazing,” says Ant. Also featured will be the brick wall end of a downscaled house, which will include spouting, fascia and aluminium joinery, with photographs and plans on display offering further inspiration. The premises will also include the business’s workshop behind the showroom. “We outgrew the workshop here at home so we purchased that building that has a lot of space out the back,” says Ant. Locals see the setting up of the showroom as a fantastic initiative, and are keen to see the big reveal, while having a new premises opening in the main street is a positive development in a small town, Ant and Donna say. Another exciting development is the range of transportable homes now being offered, aimed at those looking for affordable accommodation, such as farmers or people in town wanting to build a mid-range, low-maintenance energy-efficient home. “These are quality homes that will last the test of time,” Ant says. “We’ve just finished our first one and there’s been strong interest in that. We’ve had four or five couples go through it, with all positive feedback.” The 116sqm house was built in just threeand-a-half months on the dairy farmer client’s own property for worker accommodation at Parkhill near Heriot, about 15km from Tapanui. 11 Huron Street, Gore Shepherds Quarters Moa Flat Tapanui Residence Proudly supporting Ant Wallace Building Moa Flat She rers quarters 03 204 2323 | Nigel 027 204 2015 | Terry’s 027 204 2123 ELECTRICIANS & PLUMBERS EXPERIENCED IN DOMESTIC AND COMMERCIAL WORK
