T T Rosa Watson Stag Interiors & Construction is emerging as a leader in the retail fit-out space, with award-winning projects showcasing its work and creating demand for its services. The Christchurch-based company, formerly known as C+W Construction, has built up a portfolio of shop and office fit-outs across New Zealand, and has become widely renowned as a one-stop-shop for commercial fit-out and construction services, with a team of dedicated and experienced carpenters and site foremen. Managing director, Nick Sinclair, says there is currently strong demand in the retail sector. “Typically, at this time of year, people are making moves to prepare shops for the Christmas rush; however this year we are seeing a greater demand than the last two years. “We are also seeing a resurgence in enquiries for hospitality fit-outs. This is great to see and a strong sign of a rebounding economy.” He says enquiries for office fit-outs are also growing steadily. The company’s strength is in the staff on the tools, Nick says. “Their understanding and knowledge really is second to none.” There are five carpenters on the team, who between them have a combined 200 years’ experience. Nick and senior quality surveyor, Jack, keep things moving forward in the office. Another strength of the company that has led to its success is its flexibility, Nick says. A recent highly technical and skilful refit of the new Coffee Culture Rangiora completed by the company this year caught the eye of industry leaders, receiving high praise from judges at the NZ Commercial Project Awards and receiving a Silver Award. “Coffee Culture Rangiora was a de-fit, then fit-out of an existing Coffee Culture cafe. The building was nearly 100 years old,” Nick says. “We knew right from concept the project was going to be exciting but challenging.” Receiving a Silver Award in the retail section of the NZ Commercial Project Awards (CPA) for the project was huge for the team, and showcased the firm’s skills and capabilities to a wider audience, he says. Stag Interiors & Construction, which previously operated as Clynne and Wright Construction, or C+W Construction, has been in business for 43 years in Canterbury, servicing clients all over New Zealand, and when required, overseas. In late 2023, the founding partners retired and offered Nick and his family the opportunity to take ownership and carry on the company’s reputation and skillset. The team has also completed another three-week de-fit and fit-out of Glassons Porirua, and continues to see a good workload in the pipeline in the future. Following the rebrand from C+W Construction, Nick says the company plans to expand its clientele, with a goal to securing another one or two larger retailers to work alongside. The company also hope to secure a second experienced quantity surveyor, and with the increased demand for projects, another office staff member to carry out attentive pricing and management of sites in Christchurch city.
