T T to page 60 Plunket Electrical has helped put Oamaru on the map as a regional sporting destination with its recent Network Waitaki Event Centre project, providing the full suite of electrical and HVAC services for the $30 million Centennial Park facility. It also made a significant investment as a major sponsor, including naming rights to the Plunket Electrical Group Court. The project is the latest expression of a community commitment that has seen the Timaru- and Oamaru-based business back South Canterbury and North Otago sport and local organisations for decades, while continuing to build its own capability across the region. “This is such a great project, and it’s all for the community that we live in,” says Plunket Electrical Oamaru manager, Ryan Mountney. “Our sports clubs and local groups are really important, and we like to sponsor and get behind as many of them as we can.” Plunket Electrical carried out the electrical and HVAC work on the first stage of the Event Centre, which has six indoor courts, a multi-use indoor artificial grass area, a large projection screen for multi-ball sports, and corporate and viewing areas overlooking Centennial Park. For stage 1 of the project, Plunket Electrical delivered the specialist sport lighting needed to meet the standards required to host provincial tournaments, alongside data and communications cabling, CCTV, security and access control, heating, ventilation, and air-conditioning. Stage 2 is now in its final design phase, with further development planned for a new covered grandstand with spectator seating, changing rooms, ablutions, and office space. Ryan says the Event Centre is giving Oamaru something it has long needed: a central, all-weather sporting hub capable of attracting tournaments from across the South Island. “Our sports clubs and local groups are really important, and we like to sponsor and get behind as many of them as we can.” Proud suppliers to Plunket Electrical - Oamaru We’ve got the South Island covered with branches in Ashburton, Christchurch, Dunedin, Greymouth, Invercargill, Nelson, Oamaru, Queenstown, Timaru & Wanaka www.ideal.co.nz
