Fusion Modulair is changing the way large commercial buildings are heated and cooled with an innovative kitset HVAC system that is cutting installation times and simplifying construction projects across New Zealand. Since 2008, the Hamilton based company has been developing modular climate control technology for large retail, warehouse, sporting, and public facilities. Its latest focus is making these advanced systems available as complete kitsets, allowing experienced contractors to install proven heating and cooling solutions with greater speed and e ciency. Senior project engineer Mike Howard says Fusion’s kitset approach is an extension of the systems the company has traditionally supplied through its own contracting work, with the same technology now available to selected installation partners. “We supply the same product we use ourselves, but we have developed it into a kitset solution that contractors can install on site,” Mike says. The systems are manufactured, assembled, and tested before arriving on site ready for connection and commissioning. This reduces the complexity traditionally associated with large scale HVAC installations, where extensive ducting and on site fabrication can add signi cant time and cost to a project. The technology is particularly suited to large volume spaces, including warehouses, retail stores, sporting venues, and public facilities where maintaining comfortable temperatures can be challenging. Fusion’s modular systems use rooftop units combined with specialised air distribution technology to provide e ective heating and cooling without the need for extensive duct networks. Mike says the company has developed a solution that overcomes one of the biggest challenges in large spaces: e ectively distributing warm air. “Cool air naturally drops, so cooling large spaces is relatively straightforward,” he says. “Heating is more di cult because warm air rises. We have developed a system that spreads the air horizontally for cooling and pushes heated air down into the occupied space much more e ectively.” The kitset approach has already been successfully delivered through a number of major projects, including Aorangi Stadium in Timaru, where Fusion worked alongside South Island contractor Plunket Electrical. The project included systems for both the existing stadium and the new building, with the modular technology providing an e cient solution for a large public venue. The partnership with Plunket Electrical began several years earlier following work on the Bunnings development at Timaru’s Showgrounds precinct. Fusion supplied systems for the Bunnings store and neighbouring commercial tenancies, including Chemist Warehouse, before the relationship developed into an ongoing collaboration. Mike says the ability to supply a complete prefabricated solution has created bene ts for both contractors and clients. “The builder prepares everything on the roof, then the system arrives prefabricated and is installed ready to go,” he says. “It removes a lot of the complexity from the installation process.” Fusion systems are now operating in more than 50 Bunnings stores across New Zealand and Australia, alongside a diverse portfolio of projects including Timaru Showgrounds, multiple The Warehouse sites nationwide, and DHL facilities in Rolleston and the award-winning Te Kapua Drive in Auckland. With demand growing for faster construction methods and more energy-e cient building solutions, Mike says the company is focused on expanding its kitset o ering nationwide. “We have a lot of projects we are pricing, and we are continuing to work with contractors who see the value in having a proven system that can be installed quickly and perform e ciently,” he says.
