Taking shape on a prominent corner site at the gateway to Rangiora’s town centre is a contemporary, two-level building that’s set to become a significant new landmark for the town. A group of local investors, Cornershop Investments, purchased the high profile BNZ corner site from the Waimakariri District Council in 2023. The local investment team — Eileen and Murray Irvine, Bridget Hope and Gabe Rijpma, and Andrea and Jake Gardner — is proud of the exciting transformation taking place. Northpoint has been designed as a prestigious anchor building with excellent street presence, providing a further boost for business growth and vibrancy in the heart of Rangiora. “From the beginning, our goal was to create a high-class modern building that would stand out,” says Murray Irvine. “This is a high profile corner site at the main entrance to Rangiora’s commercial centre and the quality of the building and tenancies had to fit into that equation.” From boutique retail to professional offices, Northpoint is poised to deliver on the vision. It provides flexible spaces for businesses at a high visibility location, on-site parking for future tenants and their clients, and weather-protected access throughout via a covered arcade walkway. It has also been designed for full accessibility throughout all spaces. Demand is such that most of the building already has tenants lined up. “The level one offices are fully leased and three-quarters of the ground floor retail has gone too. We’ve only got one 113sqm space left — it’s a prime ground floor corner site with good exposure — and we expect that to go shortly. “It needs to be someone with a long term commitment to Rangiora. All our leases are 10 to 15 year leases. It would suit a retail or health service type of business.” A local accountancy firm seeking expansion has leased the top floor. Coming to the ground floor are two premium businesses that are new to Rangiora: O Studio offering a calming oasis of wellbeing and relaxation; and Bohemian Bakery that will provide a delectable range of freshly made bread and pastries. Murray and Eileen Irvine have previously played a key role in Good Street’s development in Rangiora, from rebuilding an earthquake damaged building there to strengthening and refurbishing another. For this latest development, Cornershop Investments chose Christchurch-based SMC Design Studio to create the look and feel they wanted for this special corner site, which includes the distinctive covered laneway that sits between the new building and the BNZ building.
