| 55 imaru-based Phimister Engineering Ltd is proud to be delivering mechanical engineering solutions at scale for Talley’s new state-of-the-art vegetable processing facility just north of Ashburton. Shane and Renee Phimister launched their company nearly 20 years ago. Their team has accumulated a wealth of specialist experience in industrial installation and maintenance projects, working for various food processing, meat and dairy companies across the Canterbury region. “We’ve done a lot of smaller installations before, such as canning lines, but this latest project for Talley’s Group would be the largest ever,” says Shane. “We’re installing all the processing equipment and services in Talley’s new building [on Fairfield Road, Fairton]. That includes conveyor systems for transporting vegetables, cleaning equipment, high-tech colour sorters, and blanchers that pre-cook everything before it gets frozen.” The new building has been purpose-built to process peas, corn and carrots, previously processed in an adjacent building. That other building is still operating, now solely as a high-tech facility for processing potatoes into fries and other products. “There has been an emphasis on re-use where possible, so some existing equipment has been brought across but 90% of the equipment in the new building is brand-new – we’re the team putting it all together, including all the electrical conduits for plant cables, as well as building and installing large stainless steel platforms for equipment.” When Shane first started work on this project in February 2025, the concrete floor had yet to be poured and the roof installed. By December 2025, the new building was up and running, with just a few more installations left to do for corn and carrot processing. “Looking back at what has been accomplished in just a matter of months, it ’s impressive – it demonstrates the value of having a good, tight team on the job.” Working to specific guidelines and site drawings, Shane and his team have worked in a carefully coordinated way to meet project timelines. Everything has been delivered to ensure the plant will operate safely, while also meeting strict hygiene standards. “We work hard to gain the trust of our clients and this project once again highlights our level of local experience in Canterbury. We have a trade store in Timaru too – Pro-adapt – that supports the region’s industrial sector with essential materials and supplies.” CONTACT Phimister Engineering M: 021 285 5447 E: phimisters@hotmail.com Pro-Adapt T: (03) 688 2318 E: sales@pro-adapt.nz Engineering expertise supports Talley’s processing expansion in Mid Canty Engineering Solutions You Can Count On 021 285 5447 phimisters@hotmail.com From fabrication and repairs to custom engineering solutions, Phimister Engineering delivers quality workmanship with reliable service. BC Industrial Expands Footprint in Canterbury’s Food Processing Sector Canterbury-based BC Industrial is continuing to expand its involvement in large-scale industrial and food processing projects, following the completion of a signi cant electrical installation for a new hashbrown production line at Talley’s, with another major project about to get underway. New hashbrown line involving a substantial electrical t-out, beginning with the construction and t-out of a new two-storey switch room to house the electrical and control equipment required for the new plant. BC Industrial installed extensive cable tray infrastructure throughout the facility, including challenging routes through existing roof spaces to connect the new processing equipment. VSD walls were installed and tted out, with motor and control cabling run throughout the new production line. The team also completed the electrical t-o of equipment across the plant, including stainless steel local isolators suited to the demanding food processing environment. Detailed equipment and cable labelling, electrical testing and commissioning formed part of the overall installation. Working within an established processing facility added another layer of complexity, requiring careful planning and coordination to integrate the new electrical infrastructure with the existing plant while maintaining the high standard of installation required in a food production environment. Following on from the hashbrown project, BC Industrial is now preparing to begin another substantial installation involving a new potato infeed system. The upcoming project will see the team undertake another comprehensive electrical and control installation, including construction and t-out of a dedicated VSD wall, extensive cable tray installation and the running of motor, power and control cabling throughout the new system. BC Industrial will also build and install eld junctions boxes, complete the electrical t-o of the new process equipment and undertake PLC and control work associated with the installation, followed by testing and commissioning as the new system is brought into operation. Together, the projects demonstrate the increasing scale and complexity of the industrial work being undertaken by BC Industrial and the company’s capability to deliver complete electrical and control installations in demanding processing environments. Based in Christchurch and servicing the wider Canterbury region, BC Industrial specialises in industrial electrical, automation and process control, with capabilities spanning electrical installations, control systems, PLCs, variable speed drives, instrumentation, testing, commissioning and ongoing plant support. The projects continue BC Industrial’s growing involvement in Canterbury’s food processing and manufacturing sector, providing practical electrical and control solutions from installation through to commissioning and ongoing support. admin@bcindustrial.co.nz 021 117 6883
