Around half of Season’s Best production currently goes offshore, with products exported throughout the Asia Pacific region. “We have always been strong in export markets, but there is also a real opportunity to tell the New Zealand story better here at home.” The company also continues to work with wholesale customers, food service operators, and businesses requiring products under their own brands, with Season’s Best providing growing, processing, and supply chain expertise from field to freezer. Steve says adding value to New Zealand-grown produce is essential for the future of the sector. “The more value we can create from our raw vegetables, the more we can support our growers and build a sustainable industry.” The move into supermarkets represents a new chapter for a business that has quietly supported New Zealand’s food industry for generations. Steve says the timing is right to bring Season’s Best into the public eye. “We have got a great story to tell. We have been in Ashburton for more than 50 years, we are still growing and we are still investing. We want people to know who we are.” The redevelopment of the company’s Fairton site is being delivered in stages. The first stage, a purpose-built vegetable-processing facility for peas, corn, carrots and mixed vegetables, is now operational. The new facility has doubled capacity and is among the most advanced of its kind globally. The second phase is currently underway for a brand-new, state-of-the-art hash brown processing facility, which will be operational by December 2026. This provides for significant growth on this product line and triples the current capacity. The efficiency and product options will allow far more flexibility to be competitive and provide consumers with more choice on the shelf. The third and final phase of the project is a new state-of-the-art French-fry line. This production line has been ordered and will be installed and operational by February 2028 to unlock further French-fry capacity and options for coated products.
