The first stage, a purpose-built vegetable-processing facility for peas, corn, carrots and mixed vegetables, is now operational. Steve says the investment is about creating a world-class processing facility capable of competing internationally. “We have looked at how others operate around the world, and we are making sure we have the best equipment possible. “We must be competitive. because that allows us to provide value back to our community and our growers.” Steve says Mid-Canterbury remains one of the best places in the country to grow vegetables, with strong soils, experienced growers, and the infrastructure needed to support a growing industry. “We have fantastic growers here and great land. We need to make sure we are competitive so we can give growers confidence to continue growing vegetables.” The company employs more than 400 people in Ashburton, and has become a significant contributor to the local economy. Steve says supporting the community has always been part of the business’s role. “We are a big part of the community here in Ashburton.
