Rushbrook is owned by Rushbrook 2025 LTD, the company formed by the four partners. While each brings different strengths to the business, the redevelopment of Rushbrook has been a shared project, with Sumit taking responsibility for overseeing the work on‑farm. Brothers, Sumit and Manoj, who previously farmed in the Wairarapa, have firmly established themselves in Canterbury with clearly defined roles across their operations. Manoj manages the sharemilking property in Mt Somers, while Sumit, supported by other partners, leads the redevelopment and day‑to‑day direction of the Leeston property. The partnership purchased the farm in June, and although they were aware of the challenges it presented, they also recognised its strong potential. When the partnership took over, the farm was ready for a new phase of development. Since then, significant progress has been made, with a comprehensive redevelopment plan now well underway. One of the most substantial improvements has been a complete reconfiguration of the farm’s layout. Working alongside Ashburton‑based Donaldson Contracting, the team has effectively reshaped the entire property. New tracks and fencing has played a major role, reducing the number of paddocks from 103 to just 39. Previously, paddock sizes ranged from one to 20 hectares, making grazing management difficult. The new paddocks now range between 8.5 and nine hectares, bringing much greater consistency across the platform. “It makes life way easier,” Sumit says. Donaldson Contracting has been on farm for the past three months establishing new tracks and completing the extensive ground work programme. The redevelopment aims not just to improve appearance, but to position Rushbrook for strong long‑term productivity.
