Brebner Print’s latest success at the Pride In Print Awards has added the industry’s top honour to an already impressive record of achievement. The Napier-based printer claimed the 2026 Pride In Print Supreme Award for its production of the New Zealand Birds Series of stamps as well as taking out the Business Print Category Award. The win continues a long association with the awards with Brebner Print having collected numerous gold medals since the Pride In Print Awards began in 1993. Brebner Print General Manager Ricky Howes says the win is one he is incredibly proud of. “To receive the Supreme Award is an outstanding achievement and a true reflection of the talent and dedication of our team,” says Ricky. “I couldn’t be prouder of the people who made this happen every single day.” The winning stamps were produced for last year’s PhilaKorea stamp exhibition in Seoul where they proved popular with collectors. Their distinctive combination of detailed printing, foiling and three-dimensional sculptured embossing helped set them apart. “We’ve since been contacted by collectors who weren’t able to get enough of them at the exhibition, asking for more,” says Brebner Print Stamp Production Manager Matt Tobin. “They show a depth of embossing unlike anything seen before on a stamp sheet with a stunning design and exceptionally detailed print to match it.” The judges praised the extraordinary level of detail and describing the work as “incredible, beautiful and absolutely perfect”. The stamps were printed at 600 lines per inch despite the plates technically maxing out at 400 lines per inch. The embossing also reached an exceptional depth without causing the wrinkling or distortion that would normally be expected on the stock used. Every stamp must be carefully checked before reaching the customer making consistency particularly important. “We’ve been printing stamps for four years now and the demands for quality have demonstrably improved our standards across the business,” says Matt. “We have some incredibly-skilled staff and it’s an honour to see their skill recognised like this.” The achievement adds another chapter to the history of Brebner Print, which has been operating since 1978 and is a division of Blue Star Group New Zealand, which operates seven production sites around the country and provides services spanning print manufacturing, packaging, print management, design, marketing communications, digital, merchandise and logistics. Based in Napier, with an office in Hamilton, Brebner Print is one of the largest commercial printers in the central North Island and provides end-to-end print solutions for local and international customers. Its capabilities encompass offset and digital printing, wide-format printing, design, binding and finishing, letterpress, packaging, promotional products, online ordering, mail and distribution and self-publishing. Stamp production has become an important specialist area. It can produce gummed stamps, self-adhesive booklets, stamp rolls and firstday cover envelopes, with embellishments including foiling and 3D embossing.
