BUILDING ICONIQ Group ICONIQ Group has just celebrated a milestone achievement with its first apprentice completing their building qualification through the Toirakau Pāoa Trade Academy, established in Gisborne by ICONIQ in 2021. Three additional apprentices are set to qualify this year, with four others currently partway through their training. Since its inception, the academy has trained up to 20 men and women, who have completed modules providing pathways for local rangatahi into the construction industry. “One thing we realised is that there are so many houses that need to be built in Gisborne due to the housing shortage, and there are not enough tradespeople there to cope with it,” says Todd Scrafton, managing director of ICONIQ Group. “We want to promote locals building for locals, so that’s why we started the academy. It’s awesome to see them go from starting to being trade qualified.” He says ICONIQ has a busy workload, and its resilience during the current industry downturn stems from its strategic partnerships with Kāinga Ora and iwi organisations. The project always comes first, and delivering a great result to our clients.” In Auckland, ICONIQ is developing the $17.5 million Clevedon Road project, which comprises 18 units, including 11 two-bedroom apartments and seven terrace homes. The company developed the project and subsequently sold it to Kāinga Ora. The Whangarei workload involves a 20-lot stand-alone housing project for Kāinga Ora, and in Gisborne the company has 30 units currently under construction, including a development on Gladstone Rd featuring a three-level walk-up apartment building with six two-bedroom units and nine two-bedroom terraced houses. An additional 71 units are about to break ground in Gisborne – a 33-unit project for a social housing provider and a 38-unit development in partnership with a local iwi to deliver affordable rentals. Another 30 units will commence with other community housing partners in the region. ince its formation in 2018, ICONIQ has evolved from a construction company into a comprehensive development group.
